Position Summary : The Wood Flooring Crew Lead is responsible for overseeing maple gymnasium and wood athletic flooring projects, ensuring each installation is completed with the highest levels of quality, craftsmanship, and professionalism. This role combines hands-on installation with team leadership, guiding crews through sanding, sealing, finishing, and striping while maintaining safety, client satisfaction, and project timelines. The Wood Flooring Crew Lead position offers a clear pathway into higher management within New England Sports Floors.
Key Responsibilities :
- Project Leadership
- Direct and supervise crew members, assigning tasks and coordinating multiple aspects of each job.
- Balance delegation with hands-on installation; step in as needed to maintain productivity and quality.
- Mentor and develop newer installers, fostering technical skill growth and teamwork.
- Uphold company values and professionalism when representing the team to school officials, contractors, and clients.
- Wood Flooring Expertise
- Install and refinish maple gymnasium floors, including sanding, sealing, and applying game lines, logos, and finishes.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications to ensure precision.
- Perform and oversee subfloor evaluation, leveling, moisture testing, and surface preparation.
- Ensure proper use of tools such as drum sanders, edgers, buffers, moisture meters, and other specialized wood flooring equipment.
- Safety & Quality Assurance
- Enforce OSHA 10 safety standards (company-sponsored training available if not already certified).
- Monitor installations for compliance with MFMA standards and manufacturer guidelines (Connor, Aacer).
- Address issues on-site and make informed decisions in the best interests of both the client and the company.
- Client & Jobsite Communication
- Provide professional, respectful, and direct communication with clients and general contractors.
- Deliver concise updates on progress and challenges throughout each project.
- Handle client-facing responsibilities including inspections, issue resolution, and project handoff.
Requirements :
Proven leadership, problem solving and delegation skills.5-10 years of hands-on wood flooring installation and finishing experience.Proficiency with key tools and methods for installation, sanding, sealing, striping, and finishing (approx. 70-80% expected day-one; additional training provided).OSHA 10 certification (or willingness to complete with company sponsorship).Strong professionalism with clients, contractors, and peers.Willingness to travel across New England (~30k miles / year) and perform occasional heavy lifting as part of hands-on work.Employment is contingent upon successfully passing a pre-employment drug test and background check.Required Qualifications :
40-60+ successful wood flooring installations or refinishing projects.Prior supervisory or crew leadership experience (foreman, lead installer, athletics / coaching, military).Ability to balance leadership with active job site contributions.
