    • Job Summary

    Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC) is hiring an English Residential Faculty. This position will teach at least five classes each semester with an expectation of teaching composition. Classes could be a mix of in-person, online, or hybrid format in 16-week and 8-week lengths. This position will begin August 2026.

    Additional Information

    Final in-person interviews with administration will be conducted on March 6, 2026.

    This position is for Fall 2026.

    Essential Functions

    Instruction

  • Provides inclusive English instruction that fosters critical thinking and lifelong learning.
  • Engages students with various backgrounds and learning needs through varied, meaningful, and student-centered teaching methods.
  • Uses a variety of assessment methods and learning outcomes to evaluate knowledge of subject matter and monitors student progress through the timely preparation and grading of papers / projects.
  • Maintains consistent office hours to support student success and offer guidance that aligns with individual academic goals.

    • Course Development

  • Designs and develops course materials, curricula, and syllabi that support student growth and continuous improvement.
  • Incorporates feedback and innovative, current practices to ensure course content aligns with students' needs, interests, and goals, promoting equitable access to educational success.

    • Faculty Professional Service

  • Works collaboratively with division members and with other college staff to improve student learning through a variety of ways.
  • Serves on college and / or district committees to advance EMCC's mission as an educational and cultural center for the community at large.
  • Contributes to an environment that fosters a sense of belonging for all students, faculty, and staff.

    • Professional Development

  • Engages in ongoing professional development to remain current in subject knowledge and pedagogical practices, upholding the college's high standards for excellence, innovation, and integrity.
  • Participates in relevant training and workshops, demonstrating accountability and ethical principles to benefit students and the college community.

  • Engages in the academic life of the college as reflected in the Residential Faculty Agreement and College Plan.

    • Minimum Qualifications

    A Master's degree or higher in the teaching field (English, Rhetoric, Composition, Literature, Creative Writing, English Education, Journalism, New Media Studies, Teaching English as a Second language, Linguistics.

    OR

    A Master's in any field with 18 graduate-level credits in these prefixes / subjects : ENG, ENH, LIT, ENGL, RHET, WTG, COMP, CRW, LIN, JRN, ESL, BLE, BME, Rhetoric, Literature, Composition, Literacy, Linguistics, Writing.

    OR

    Master's in any field with 18 graduate-level credits in courses with these keywords will be reviewed to verify applicability : BLE, BME, HUM, SPC, LAE, EDU, HED, IDS, RDG, Culture, Language, Critical Theory, Critical Thinking, Critical Analysis, Reading

    Desired Qualifications

  • A Master's degree and / or PhD degree in English / Composition / Rhetoric or an MFA in Creative Writing, or a Master's in any teaching field with 18 graduate hours in English.
  • Experience teaching English composition courses at a community college or university for two or more years.
  • Experience working with and / or instructing individuals of unique abilities and / or cultural backgrounds
  • Experience using active learning successfully in English composition courses at a community college or university for two or more years.
  • Experience with successfully implementing relevant and engaging course content and materials.
  • Experience with multiple teaching modalities (ex : face-to-face, hybrid, online, accelerated).
  • Experience collaborating within and across disciplines and / or departments to improve student success.
