Key responsibilities

  • Manage UX projects and deliverables that are large in scope and complexity autonomously.
  • Understand end-to-end customer journeys, friction points, and how proposed solutions impact users and workflows.
  • Choose the right creative process and level of fidelity for design problems.
  • Design conceptual wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, information architecture diagrams, interaction specifications, and functional prototypes.
  • Understand target users through user research and drive data collection when needed.
  • Drive alignment and commitment to design decisions by soliciting, synthesizing, and managing feedback, partnering with cross-functional peers and stakeholders to deliver results.
  • Present design work to cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and executive leadership to get buy-in and feedback.
  • Maintain high design standards and seek continuous improvement.
  • Proactively manage work queue and deadlines, and communicate needs and tradeoffs.
  • Advocate for high-quality customer experiences.
  • Mentor other designers and amplify impact through communication and scalable systems.

Role scope and candidate profile

This role will support strategic design for an emergent flagship IT product that empowers Amazon employees to do their best work. A strong candidate will have high standards for design quality and relish opportunities to delight customers with creative solutions. The role views design as a team sport, coaching cross-functional teams to develop world-class customer experiences. Excitement for using AI and for moving fast is a bonus.

We are seeking someone passionate about building for broadly global customers (travel to connect with customers outside of Seattle is encouraged) and supporting diverse employee needs, including designing to meet WCAG accessibility standards.

We are flexible with job level for this role and can consider a strong Intermediate UX Designer.

Additional responsibilities

  • Drive design jams and ideation sessions to flush out project details and steer stakeholder alignment.
  • Develop design collateral, including design concepts, storyboards, personas, journey and process maps.
  • Integrate stakeholders in a collaborative design process to refine wireframes and design specifications.
  • Leverage research partners to understand customer mental models, validate design concepts, and evaluate shipped designs.
  • A day in the life

    The Amazon IT UX team is highly collaborative. A typical day may include focused design concept development, design critique sessions, data dashboard reviews, team lunches, mentor meetings, and design jam whiteboarding sessions for emerging needs.

  • Qualifications

  • 5+ years of design experience
  • 5+ years of UX designer or interaction designer experience
  • Online portfolio demonstrating end-to-end, user-centered design solutions across desktop and mobile
  • Experience with design tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign and prototyping in HTML, JavaScript, CSS, Ajax
  • Experience with UX design of complex workflows
  • Knowledge of information architecture and design best practices
  • Experience working with stakeholders to plan and execute strategic programs

    Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $127,100 / year to $211,600 / year, depending on location and factors such as knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Depending on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other compensation may be provided as part of a total package.
