Supervisor - Revenue Accounting
This supervisory position is responsible for leading a team of accountants in the accurate and timely recording, analysis, reporting, and distribution of oil and gas revenues. This role ensures compliance with GAAP, regulatory requirements, and company policies, while supporting process improvements, system automation, and strong internal controls. The Supervisor Revenue Accounting serves as a key liaison between Accounting, Land, Marketing, Production, and Audit teams to ensure revenue results are complete, accurate, and aligned with business objectives.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Supervise the daily operations of the revenue accounting team, including the distribution processes
- Review and approve monthly revenue entries, reconciliations, and reports to ensure completeness and accuracy
- Monitor and analyze variances in revenue, deductions, and pricing, identifying and resolving discrepancies
- Oversee the processing of ownership changes, division orders, and suspense accounts in coordination with Land and Division Order departments
- Ensure compliance with joint interest, royalty, and regulatory reporting requirements
- Lead month-end close activities including journal entries and account reconciliations
- Collaborate with IT and business process teams to improve efficiency through automation, data validation tools, and workflow enhancements
- Support internal and external audits by providing documentation, explanations, and control evidence
- Train, mentor, and evaluate staff performance, fostering an environment of accountability, collaboration, and professional growth
- Participate in system implementations, mergers / acquisitions, and other strategic projects impacting revenue accounting
- Maintain and strengthen SOX controls and ensure adherence to company accounting policies and procedures
- Participate in decisions involving hiring, promotion, wage / salary change, and termination of employment of team
- Performs other duties as assigned
Job Specific Skills
Strong understanding of oil and gas revenue accounting principles, including production volume allocations, sales, and royalty calculationsWorking knowledge of upstream accounting systems (e.g., SAP PRA, Enertia or similar).Advanced Excel and data analysis skills; experience with automation tools (e.g., Power BI, Snowflake, etc.) a plus.Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a team in a fast-paced environmentExcellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skillsStrong communication and interpersonal skills for effective cross-functional collaborationDetail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and control complianceAbility to assign, delegate and direct the work of others, provide on-the-job training, performance assessment, coaching, motivation and career development to employeesAble to show flexibility in response to change and adapt to and accommodate new policies, procedures and technologyEducation
Minimum : High school diploma or GED
Preferred : Bachelor's degree - from accredited university - Accounting, Finance or related field
Preferred : Master's degree - from accredited university - Accounting, Finance or related field
Preferred : CPA or CFA
Experience
Minimum : 5 years related work experience
