Primary Function of Organizational Unit

Operate WNCU, a 50,000-watt FM public radio station providing training, information, education, and entertainment through broadcast and digital platforms. The station offers diverse programming, including jazz, news, and community-focused content, serving local and global audiences while supporting academic programs.

Primary Purpose of Position

Manage and oversee WNCU's sound, content, and programming to ensure high-quality delivery and station image. Develop and select broadcast content, supervise on-air talent, implement programming policies, ensure FCC compliance, and enhance digital presence. Produce content, coordinate digital and on-air platforms, mentor staff and students, and engage with the community.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Minimum five years in music, news, or broadcast programming, preferably jazz
• Supervisory experience in public radio
• Knowledge of broadcasting equipment and software (e.g., Music Master, WideOrbit, Adobe Audition)
• Strong research, communication, leadership, and management skills
• Excellent written and oral communication
• Ability to plan, meet deadlines, and analyze audience data

Minimum Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent plus one year related experience, or equivalent combination.

Licenses or Certifications

None required by statute or regulation.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

Program Planning, Organizing, and Management

Ensure FCC compliance, oversee programming schedules, develop promotions, manage station imaging, supervise staff, evaluate programming, and coordinate community outreach and events.

Training and Education

Provide training to staff and students, conduct workshops, and uphold FCC regulations, fostering professional development and technical proficiency.

Analysis and Decision Making

Manage music and content acquisition, use automation and scheduling software, analyze audience data, and maintain music library and reporting for compliance and outreach.

Communication (Presentations, Oral, and Written)

Communicate effectively with team, community, and industry partners, prepare reports, and create content for on-air and digital platforms. Serve as an on-air personality when needed.

Knowledge - Program / Technical

Possess comprehensive knowledge of broadcast technology, software, equipment, and digital content management. Provide technical support and training to staff and students.

Other Duties as Assigned

Perform additional tasks as needed to support station operations and goals.
