Your day to day as a Business Manager to the COO / EVP
The Business Manager to the Chief Operating Officer & Executive Vice President plays a pivotal role, acting as a proactive problem solver tailored to meet the unique needs of the COO / EVP. This position is essential in allowing the executive to concentrate on strategic initiatives that drive the organization's success. The Business Manager is responsible for thoroughly preparing the COO / EVP for meetings by ensuring all relevant attendees are equipped, and by compiling key talking points, agendas, and necessary reports from various departments. This role demands a high level of judgment and the ability to work independently in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities. The Business Manager must utilize their experience to provide advanced support while maintaining confidentiality, and their creativity and degree of latitude in problem-solving are crucial for fostering operational excellence.

To excel as a Business Manager to the Chief Operating Officer & Executive Vice President at United Way for Southeastern Michigan, candidates should possess a blend of experience and skills tailored for high-level support. A Bachelor's degree is preferred, along with 5-8 years of administrative experience, including 3-5 years supporting senior executives, ideally within the nonprofit sector. Strong judgment, communication, and organizational skills are imperative, as the role requires both independent and collaborative work.
Proficiency in CRM systems and data-informed decision-making is essential, enabling the manager to effectively manage information and support strategic initiatives. High professionalism, discretion, and a customer service orientation are crucial for nurturing relationships with diverse stakeholders, including senior leaders. Additionally, the ability to learn agilely and adapt to changing skills and perspectives is vital, along with excellent verbal and written communication capabilities to facilitate effective interactions and collaboration throughout the organization.
