Physician-based Oncology Senior Complex Coder

Overview

Physician-based Oncology Senior Complex Coder role at Banner Health. This remote position supports busy hematology / oncology providers and requires extensive E / M coding experience in Surgical Hematology & Oncology and / or Radiology Oncology.

Responsibilities

• Perform full range of complex professional coding in support of specialty or multi-specialty physician practices by evaluating medical records and validating appropriate clinical diagnosis and procedure codes in accordance with national coding guidelines.
• Lead and participate in training and onboarding of new staff; conduct coding round table discussions.
• Code ICD-CM and CPT-4 for accurate APC assignment and address NCCI edits; reconcile charges as required.
• Abstract clinical information from medical records into electronic medical records; identify missing information and ensure complete records with appropriate signatures / authorizations.
• Provide quality assurance to ensure compliance with coding rules and regulations (CMS, OIG, HCFA, state Medicaid, and applicable standards).
• Compile daily and monthly reports; analyze data for research or performance improvement.
• Identify validation edits and revision issues to ensure compliant coding; mentor less experienced staff and assist in onboarding.
• Work independently with strong prioritization and accountability; interpret coding guidelines and LCDs for complex matters before escalation.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma / GED or equivalent training; Associate's degree in a related health care field or equivalent training. Must have :

Preferred qualifications include Radiology Certified Coder (RCC) if in Imaging space and specialty coding certifications.
