Purpose
As an Automation Engineer within the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) group, you will contribute to the definition, design, build and programming of automated equipment to be used within THOR’s operating companies. This role will be part of a cross-functional team developing automated and robotic equipment for a diverse range of products and production types. This role will require working alongside others within the AME group identifying opportunities for design and process improvements. These designs will then go through the engineering process of model creation, engineering drawing creation, and prototyping.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Build and maintain relationships with the operating companies and across innovation departments.
- Create a culture of both accountability and empowerment.
- See projects through to stable production with a smooth handoff to the operating companies.
- Participates in engineering projects regarding new equipment designs and builds.
- Should be able to translate user requirements into functional design and a technical concept.
- Provide advanced technical solutions and leads team through process.
- Demonstrate creativity and ingenuity in applying engineering principles and practices.
- Devise innovative solutions to existing manufacturing problems.
- Apply working knowledge of product design and assembly to the manufacturing process.
- Should conduct plant assessments & understand customer requirements and define DOU / SOW
- Should support in preparing RFQ / RFIs to vendors and should evaluate vendor quotes.
- Should support in preparing proposals to customers and should play role in winning projects.
- Coordinate offshore & vendor teams based on project requirement.
- Should support Project Status Reviews and Senior Management Reviews
- Responsible for customer satisfaction and future engagement with customer
- Available for limited travel to vendor and customers sites for project matters (Travel is typically planned and limited)
General Skills
Project Management Skills & End-to-end Automation project execution experience.Project estimation & Proposal preparation.Experience in Customer / Stakeholder Management.Vendor Management & RFQ to VendorsExperience in conducting plant and process assessments.Very good interpersonal and communication skills.Capable in the use of Microsoft software for documentation, project creation, and presentationsCritical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.CAD (2D, 3D, simulation software) experience is desirable but not required.The ability to work independently or as a member of a project team.Technical Skills
Hands-on experience in manufacturing automation applications.Experience in custom engineered solution businesses as well as factory automation is ideal.Experience in developing system integration solutions for assembly line automation projects.Strong fundamental knowledge of mechanical engineering and control automation.Design and implementation of end-of-arm tooling (EOAT) for various applications.Design, development, and configuration of robotic and / or automation work cell layouts.Hands-on experience in robotic or collaborative robot automation implementation.Automation Cell integration experience (Robotics / Pneumatic / PLC / Safety, etc.)Understand, follow, and enforce equipment safety guidelines and regulations.Experience in arriving high level-concept, ROM & BOM high level estimation.Low-cost automation, fixture design, SPM & testing machine knowledgeAssembly, pick & place, vision and inspection automationIndustry experience – Truck & Off-Highway Manufacturing. (any other industry will be added advantage)Knowledge of Operation technology communication protocols.Experience and knowledge in robot programming. This includes but is not limited to developing new programs, modifying existing programs, establishing robot working frames, creating interference zones, and setting cell parameters. KUKA and Yaskawa Robotics experience is preferred but not mandatory.Ability to troubleshoot issues and / or errors with equipment and corresponding machinery. This includes basic electrical, pneumatic, mechanical, and robotic troubleshooting ability.The ability to read, understand, and modify electrical schematics.Educational Requirements :
