Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a fast-paced Emergency Department position requiring at least 3 years of high-acuity ED experience and a WA or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a high-volume Emergency Department at a Level III trauma center
  • The department has 34 beds and 12 hallway beds, including a fast track zone with 13 beds
  • Treats patients from neonate to geriatric, including pediatric medical and trauma, stroke, cardiac, behavioral health, and substance use disorder cases
  • Patient ratios of 1 : 3-5 based on acuity
  • No floating required
  • Uses Epic EMR (experience strongly recommended), Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Phillips monitoring equipment
  • Work 12-hour day shifts with variable start times including early and late mids; every other weekend is required and up to 1-2 holidays per contract
  • Responsibilities include critical care, trauma, code response, stroke (TPA administration), and coordination with the cath lab and transfer teams for high-acuity cases
  • Unit support includes ED techs, medical assistants, reception / HUC, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV / VAT team (until 2300), hospitalist, mid-level providers, and 24 / 7 security
  • RNs are responsible for drawing their own labs, especially on night shifts
  • 1-2 shifts of unit orientation are provided with preceptor support while carrying a patient assignment
  • Must have flexibility with shift times and be available for weekend and some holiday coverage
  • Scrub color is any solid color with no logos
  • Free parking is available onsite
  • Up to 7 days off may be approved during contract

    • Requirements

  • Active WA or compact RN license
  • At least 3 years of ED experience in a large volume, high-acuity setting
  • Current certifications required : ACLS, BLS, PALS or ENPC, and TNCC
  • Strong emergency nursing skills including critical care and pediatric experience
  • Experience with chest tubes, arterial lines, medication drips, splinting, Bipap / ventilators, barcode medication administration, and triage (must pass hospital triage test prior to assignment)
  • Pediatric emergency medicine experience highly preferred
  • Epic EMR experience is strongly recommended
  • First-time travelers are not accepted
