The El Dorado County District Attorney's Office is dedicated to serving the community by objectively investigating and prosecuting matters under the law to attain justice. Use your skills to perform varied and responsible specialized and confidential legal secretarial duties; compose and prepare correspondence; provides legal administrative support to attorneys, court officers, or law enforcement personnel; assist with calendaring and scheduling; and perform related duties as assigned.

Human Resources will assess your application to determine if you are minimally qualified using the following recommendations : Any combination of the required experience, education, and training that would provide the essential knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.
Legal Secretary I : Equivalent to graduation from high school; AND Two (2) years of general secretarial and administrative office support experience.
Legal Secretary II : Equivalent to graduation from high school; AND One (1) year of legal secretarial experience providing support to attorneys, court officers, or other law enforcement personnel, OR One (1) year of experience equivalent to the County's class of Legal Secretary I. Licenses and Certifications : Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California Driver's License by time of appointment and a satisfactory driving record.

A written exam will be utilized to determine an applicant's ranking and placement on the eligibility list. The online examination has been tentatively scheduled for 10 / 31 / 2025. If it is determined that you meet the minimum qualifications and are therefore eligible to participate, you will be notified by email prior to the examination. If you have taken this examination within six (6) months prior to the scheduled date of the examination, your score will automatically be transferred to this exam and you are not permitted to sit for this examination. If you have taken this examination from greater than six (6) months but within twelve (12) months prior to the scheduled date of the examination, you may elect to transfer that examination score or sit for the examination again; you must contact Human Resources prior to the scheduled exam date to request that your previous score be transferred. A transferred examination score does not guarantee passing the current examination administration. Examination pass points are set in accordance with the EEOC Uniform Employee Selection Guidelines.

Extra help vacancies are made to maintain adequate coverage of work for short periods of time at frequent intervals, where employment is of a recurrent nature depending on the needs of the Agency; work may be seasonal, on-call, and / or for a limited duration. Extra help employees are not considered regular employees, therefore do not attain civil service status, and do not receive benefits or paid leaves; however, they do accrue sick leave consistent with the law.

Prior to conditional job offer, candidates will undergo a thorough background investigation. As required by Internal Revenue Service Publication 1075, individuals in positions that have access to Federal Tax Information will be subject to a background investigation and a criminal history check. In addition, individuals hired into positions that have access to FTI will be re-investigated at least once every five years.
