Job Summary
As a Wireless Network Engineer, you will be essential in facilitating effective wireless communication and enabling the digital connectivity of the UCSF community across the Health, Education, Research, and Business missions. You will continuously adapt to emerging technologies and industry standards to provide cutting-edge wireless solutions. Builds and maintains the UCSF wireless network. Provides network engineering and technical support for wireless network infrastructure, ensuring systems operate at peak efficiency with little to no downtime. Designs, configures, troubleshoots, and maintains UCSF network equipment across multiple platforms. Ensures all networking activities are aligned to industry's best practices as well as IT and UCSF policies, processes, and procedures.
The Wireless Network Engineer will report to the Network Wireless Manager, who acts as the technical lead for the Network Services team at UCSF. The Wireless Network Engineer is responsible for the daily operational support, maintenance, improvement, documentation, and implementation of all network's wireless services under the wired and wireless portfolio. Ensures IT meets both the current and future network service needs of a broad range of customers, partners, and key stakeholders in administrative and academic units. Guides a team of engineers to drive innovative solutions, ensuring the delivery of best-in-class service to UCSF. Direct strategic and operational planning to achieve business goals, prioritizing initiatives and coordinating the evaluation, deployment, and management of current and future IT systems across the organization. Ensures flexible, efficient, and reliable systems able to adjust to future demands consistent with the health and campus growth and vision.
The Wireless Network Engineer will positively impact UCSF's operations and culture by ensuring UCSF's IT infrastructure is operable, secure, efficient, and effective in service of the UCSF's academic mission. This team member will advance UCSF's mission by delivering exceptional information technology services comprehensively and consistently across stakeholders. This role will execute the University's vision while modeling UCSF's culture and values. The IT Network Services department is comprised of Network Security, Network Field Services, Network Wired and Wireless Services, and Network Infrastructure Services. We are one of a few organizations within the Academic Healthcare space with an IT Network Organization that supports clinical, research, and academic environments. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors, including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. Department Description
The Network Services team within Infrastructure Services holds a critical role in managing, maintaining, and developing the company's computer network infrastructure, particularly ensuring reliable technical accessibility for individuals engaged in vital medical and health research work. Their core responsibilities include providing secure internet and network services, managing IT services, and maintaining data systems. They support end-users, manage system updates, repairs, and connectivity issues, and play an essential role in troubleshooting network issues, optimizing performance, and implementing protocols. They also oversee software and hardware updates, and manage data storage, disaster recovery, and network resilience. Beyond this, Network Services provides specialized technical support to other employees in the organization, with a focus on those involved in medical and health research.
