Purpose of the position
This position is responsible for supervising all aspects of the truck / rail receiving process from inbound grading to binning, meal loadout, hulls loadout, meal storage, scale / probe house, bean storage / conservation and all truck / rail activities coordination. Bean receiving involves unloading and assigning inbound bean to storage bins / barns according to grade specifications, and load out of meal / hulls by rail and truck in line with customer specifications and commercial / logistic requirements. The role also includes monitoring operations and supervising all receiving operators and related shift roles to ensure safe, profitable plant operations.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and supervise rail / truck unloading and loading operations. Lead normal operations, startups, shutdowns, industrial cleanings and changeovers at the Commodity Handler and Scale House areas. Coordinate railcar movement with railroad personnel.
- Promote a clean and organized workspace. Provide an injury-free environment through engagement, JHAs, training, good manufacturing practices, LDC standards / policies, and proactive exposure elimination. Maintain housekeeping and implement 5S practices; conduct regular audits for 5S compliance.
- Promote a safe and healthy work environment. Improve safety metrics by addressing physical safety issues and employee safety attitudes. Enforce safety protocols and conduct safety audits and risk assessments.
- Initiate continuous improvement plans to minimize bean receiving, meal, and chemical unloading costs through effective utilization of manpower, equipment, facilities, materials, and capital. Meet business objectives and production schedules while upholding product standards.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning. Establish accountabilities across the Commodity Handler and Scale House for safety leadership, problem solving and cost reduction. Facilitate meetings and track improvement initiatives.
- Participate in annual business planning and plant budgeting. Manage spending related to bean receiving and loadout volume. Refine unloading / loading operations and maintain communication with Shift Leaders, Operators, managers and other plant areas.
- Maintain skills and ensure team members are trained in maintenance tasks. Promote autonomous maintenance and ensure regular cleaning, inspection, and lubrication of equipment.
- Ensure product shipping meets customer standards through HACCP, GMP and Food Safety programs. Implement quality controls and conduct root cause analysis for quality issues.
- Establish shift production schedules for Commodity Handler and Scale House areas. Assist with selecting and training new employees.
- Spend up to 50% of time in the work areas engaging employees and troubleshooting; remainder in administrative / planning duties. Utilize resources effectively and foster a well-trained staff.
- Develop and oversee preventive maintenance schedules. Coordinate with maintenance technicians to minimize production disruption.
- Involve the team in selecting and installing new equipment. Provide feedback on equipment performance and maintenance needs. Ensure new equipment is maintainable and operable.
- Develop and manage CAPEX within areas of responsibility.
Working Conditions
Continuous 24 / 7 plant operation with 12-hour shifts and occasional off-shift call-ins. Extended hours may be required for time-sensitive projects, training or emergencies. Exposure to varying temperatures, chemicals, gases, dust, and noise. Occasional wet floors and heavy lifting. Some stair / ladder climbing and work above ground level.Education / Certifications / Licenses
High School graduate or 2–4-year technical degree in Chemical, Mechanical or Process Engineering preferred.Driver's LicenseExperience
Minimum 2 years of management / supervisory experience in grain elevator, oilseeds processing or food production facility.Knowledge of railroad operations from vocational institute, on-the-job training, or similar activities.Grain inspection / grading, data systems knowledge (e.g., Compuweight) and bulk solids conveyors maintenance knowledge preferred.Employee Supervision
May supervise all team at the Commodity Handler (receiving, load out) and Scale / Probe House areas.Authority to recommend hiring, firing, discipline, and to supervise, manage and assign direct work.Approve time and attendance; approve PTO in Workday and coordinate shift coverage.Maintain order and discipline per LDC policies; participate in SHE program; ensure safety procedures and environmental requirements are followed.Monitor rail / truck unloading operations for safety and efficiency; inspect elevator equipment, conveyors, tracks, and sanitary conditions; assign sanitation / housekeeping tasks as needed.Quality & Product Safety Responsibilities
Maintain knowledge of Quality and Product Safety policies; ensure staff are trained and area is kept safe and orderly. Remedy unsafe conditions promptly.What We Offer
