Overview

The Payroll Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll for all employees. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, maintains payroll records, and provides exceptional support to faculty and staff. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, confidentiality, and a thorough understanding of payroll systems and processes.

Responsibilities

  • Process biweekly payroll for all university employees in accordance with established deadlines and policies.
  • Review and verify timekeeping records for accuracy and compliance with labor laws.
  • Maintain payroll data, including earnings, deductions, taxes, and benefits.
  • Prepare and reconcile payroll reports and assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources and Finance to ensure proper accounting and reporting of payroll transactions.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay, deductions, and leave balances in a timely and professional manner.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable payroll laws, tax regulations, and internal procedures.
  • Support annual audits, W-2 processing, and other related reporting requirements.

Qualifications

  • Associates or Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of payroll experience
  • Proficiency in payroll software (e.g., ADP, Paycom, Workday, or similar systems).
  • Strong understanding of wage and hour laws, tax regulations, and payroll best practices.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy with excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
