Must-Have :

• More than 3 years of experience with solid Medical Surgical or Telemetry background.
• Preferred stroke experience.
• Open to first-time travelers.

Description :

This unit consists of 34 beds.

The nurse to patient ratio is 1 : 3-4.

Common diagnoses include stroke, spine and back surgeries, cranial surgeries, medical neuro disorders, neuro intervention procedures, Guillain Barre, Myasthenia Gravis, seizures, and EEG monitoring.

Patients typically experience an average length of stay of 2-5 days.

Support is provided by Neuroscience Nurse Practitioners 24 / 7 for all neuro surgery and intervention patients.

This unit serves a large geographic area and is a primary site for neurosurgery.

The role does not require titration of drips.

Common titratable and set rate drips are not applicable.

There is a Charge Nurse on each shift, and a House Supervisor supports the entire facility.

Certified Nursing Assistants are available with a ratio of 1 : 8.

Respiratory Therapy Equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow, and Trachs, with respiratory therapy available as a resource.

Telemetry and monitoring technology will be implemented in the near future.

Managers handle scheduling, and travelers will be assigned based on needs.

Shifts are typically scheduled with an effort to maintain three consecutive nights, though this is not guaranteed.

Weekend and holiday requirements are based on departmental needs.

Floating to support various Med-Surg areas is a requirement, and travelers are the first to float.

Professional dress is expected; no specific scrub color is mandated.

Unit-specific orientation includes several shifts and is facilitated by an educator.
