Patient Access Advocate / Full Time Nights - 75 Hours Bi-Weekly (Varied Shifts)

Job Summary :

Serves the needs of patients, associates, and third party payers through the accurate, effective, and efficient completion of Patient Access and Revenue Cycle tasks.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities :

1. gathering demographic and insurance information by telephone

2. entering above data into the computer.

3.Processes all patient type registrations without creating duplicate medical record numbers or duplicate patient account numbers including :

a.scanning insurance card(s)

b.entering / verifying demographic and insurance data into computer

c.obtaining room assignment by contacting proper nursing unit / bed control

d.obtaining appropriate signatures on forms

e. directing / transporting the patient to the appropriate department or unit

f.following through on special diagnosis patients (i.e. infectious patients)

g.offering all patients, a copy of the brochure "Your Rights & Responsibilities as a Patient"

i. completing Medicare Secondary Payer Questionnaires

3. Edits / prepares registrations accurately before passing on to billing.

4. Processes transfers and discharges.

5. Completes follow-up on signatures, Medicaid eligibility and Medicare Secondary Payer Questionnaires.

Education and Experience Required :

1. Must have or be working toward a high school diploma or equivalent with special emphasis on office skills.

2. Specific vocational preparation includes an occupationally significant vocational training or on-the-job computer andswitchboard experience. Medical terminology and healthcare business office experience would be helpful.
