Description JOB TITLE : Certified Nurse Aid (CNA) DEPARTMENT : Christopher House Clinical POSITION SUMMARY Under the direction of RN, provides quality personal care, following an established Plan of Care. WORKING RELATIONSHIPS REPORTS TO : Director of Inpatient Services SUPERVISES : None INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS : All comments, actions and behaviors have a direct effect on the public's perception of Hospice Austin. Interactions with patients, family members, physicians, referral sources, visitors, co-workers, etc. must be in a manner that is courteous, respectful, cooperative and professional. This behavior should promote an atmosphere of teamwork and positive relations. EQUIPMENT / MACHINERY USED Office equipment, computer, copy machine, minor medical equipment including but not limited to blood pressure cuff, oxygen tanks or concentrators, and thermometers.
- Assists with personal hygiene bathes, grooms (hair and nails), provides oral hygiene, checks skin integrity.
- Provides peri-care and performs Foley care and maintenance.
- Dresses patients.
- Performs patient transfers, turns, etc. while ensuring safety of patient and self.
- Takes vital signs and weights as directed.
- Ambulates patients as appropriate and does range of motion exercise as directed.
- May perform simple dressing changes as directed by the RN (i.e. non-sterile, non-surgical, and not greater than Stage 1 pressure ulcers).
- Assists with medications that are ordinarily self-administered.
- Provides care consistent with written instructions as outlined in patient's care plan.
- Demonstrates understanding and support in interactions with team members
- Communicates with Charge Nurse and other team members as appropriate; reports changes in patient's condition and needs.
- Documents care in a timely manner, and in compliance with organization policies and procedures.
- Obtains supplies and teaches use of medical supplies.
- Uses and reinforces the RN's teaching on use of equipment.
- Checks equipment for safety and cleans equipment.
- Changes linens.
- Provides nutritional support, assists with feeding, light meal preparations and light housekeeping as indicated. CNAs may also assist kitchen staff with menu orders from patients / families.
- Performs other related supportive tasks as specified by organizational policy or as assigned.
- May launder facility linens or assist with other operational duties as needed.
- Provides back up support for the Unit Clerk role when needed, to include answering the phone, creating and scanning charts.
- Answers call lights and respond to patients needs when applicable. Qualifications PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
