Unit Overview :
Join our 24-bed Neurosurgical Unit , where you will provide care for a diverse and complex patient population, including :
Post-operative craniotomies for bleed evacuation, AVMs, and tumor resections.Cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine surgeries.Patients with hemorrhagic and ischemic strokes as part of our Comprehensive Stroke Program.A high volume of spinal surgery patients and medical overflow cases.As part of the Aurora Neuroscience Innovation Institute (ANII) , our team delivers cutting-edge care with the latest neurosurgical techniques.

Utilize the nursing process to assess patient needs, implement individualized interventions, and evaluate care effectiveness.Proactively monitor significant changes in patient conditions and adjust care plans as necessary.Implement strategies to enhance patient safety and manage learning needs for patients and families.Coordinate discharge plans with an interdisciplinary approach.Evaluate outcomes for patients, teams, and units and take necessary actions to enhance care.Exhibit effective communication and collaboration skills, leading healthcare teams and delegating tasks appropriately.Promote a safety culture by identifying and addressing patient safety threats.Apply ethical decision-making and work effectively as part of the patient care team.Participate in improvement initiatives to enhance departmental and patient care functions.Engage in professional development activities, seeking mentorship and education.Demonstrate knowledge of age-specific care requirements across patient lifespans.Licensure, Registration, and / or Certification Required :
Registered Nurse license in the state of practice.Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).Education Required :
Completion of an accredited Nursing program.Experience Required :
A minimum of 1 year of clinical nursing experience is typically required.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required :

Capable of sitting, standing, walking, lifting, bending, reaching, and twisting frequently.Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist and 20 lbs. overhead.Capable of carrying up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance and pushing / pulling with 30 lbs. of force.Comfortable performing a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with assistance.Ability to use foot pedals on equipment as needed.Exposure to chemicals, hazardous materials, and potential communicable diseases is possible; protective equipment must be used.Must possess functional speech, vision, hearing, and tactile skills for procedures such as IV insertions.Ability to operate all necessary equipment for job performance.This job description outlines the general nature and level of work expected of the incumbent but is not intended to be exhaustive on the specific tasks required.
