About The Role :

As the Head of Technical Accounting and Financial Reporting, you will lead the development and implementation of accounting practices that ensure our organization is equipped for evolving financial reporting requirements. Guiding a team and reporting to the Corporate Controller, you will bring strategic insight and deep technical expertise to establish robust processes, maintain compliance with U.S. GAAP and regulatory standards, and elevate our financial reporting capabilities.

What You'll Achieve :

Lead technical accounting research and policy development for complex transactions (e.g., non-standard equity transactions, leases, consolidations, business combinations) and ensure documentation is complete and audit-ready.

Build and scale the financial reporting processes, controls, and systems suitable for a public company environment, including selecting and implementing reporting tools and documentation practices.

Prepare audited financial statements and disclosures for private company needs (investor reporting, board packages, etc.) while driving readiness for potential future SEC filings.

Develop internal reporting frameworks to standardize processes across multiple entities or geographies, ensuring accuracy and consistency.

Collaborate with CFO, CAO, FP&A, and Legal to ensure alignment between financial results, KPIs, and investor / board communications.

Set up internal control structures and processes, including risk assessment, documentation, and testing protocols.

Lead or support strategic initiatives ensuring accounting impacts are proactively addressed

Build and mentor a high-performing team to manage growing technical accounting and reporting requirements as Notion scales.

Skills You'll Need to Bring :

12+ years of progressive accounting and reporting experience, including at least 3+ years of SEC Reporting Experience.

Significant technical accounting expertise with in-depth U.S. GAAP knowledge and proven application in a high-growth environment.

Strong background in SEC reporting, including authorship of public company filings (10-Ks, 10-Qs, 8-Ks) and registration statements (S-1).

Pre-IPO / private company experience is essential, with demonstrated success in building scalable reporting and compliance processes. Experience in SaaS preferred.

Public accounting foundation (Big Four preferred) combined with in-house corporate reporting leadership required.

Experience working directly with auditors, Audit Committees, and other specialists.

Strong familiarity with controls implementation and internal control frameworks.

Exceptional technical writing, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to distill complex accounting guidance to stakeholders at all levels.

Proven ability to operate in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and build processes from the ground up.

Nice to Haves : CPA or equivalent

Proficient experience in using NetSuite

IPO transaction experience highly preferred

Notion is committed to providing highly competitive cash compensation, equity, and benefits. The compensation offered for this role will be based on multiple factors such as location, the role’s scope and complexity, and the candidate’s experience and expertise, and may vary from the range provided below. For roles based in San Francisco, the estimated base salary range for this role is $190,000 - $230,000 per year.
