ABOUT ROLE :
Substance Abuse Counselors are the ultimate cheerleaders on the road to recovery! They guide individuals and their families as they navigate rehabilitation from illicit substances, prescription or street drugs, alcohol, and other substance-related or behavioral addictions. With compassion, encouragement, and real-life tools, they help people rebuild their lives, rediscover their strengths, and move forward with confidence.
WHAT YOU'LL DO :
- Lead inspiring individual and group counseling sessions tailored to each client's personalized treatment plan, using compassion, creativity, and professional best practices.
- Keep records crisp, accurate, and on time -because great care starts with great documentation.
- Stay sharp and ahead of the curve by keeping up with the latest treatment techniques, assessment tools, justice-system updates, and community resources through trainings, workshops, and ongoing learning.
- Champion and guide the clinical team -from hiring and onboarding to coaching and performance evaluations-ensuring everyone feels supported and set up for success.
- Be a steady lifeline during crises , offering support to therapists and clients when they need it most.
- Continuously elevate the clinical program by assessing what works, identifying improvements, and ensuring we meet client needs, agency standards, and funding requirements.
- Keep client files, documentation, and reporting organized and aligned with agency policies and compliance expectations.
- Track client progress and program outcomes in the agency database to keep everything running smoothly and transparently.
- Turn outcome data into action , using insights to strengthen staff performance, enhance services, and boost overall program impact.
- Stay committed to evidence-based practices , researching new trends and innovative approaches used across the field to keep programming fresh, effective, and client-centered.

A valid DC clinical license (CAC I, CAC II, LPC, LISAC, LCSW, etc.) - your official badge of clinical excellence.At least 3 years of supervisory experience , showing you know how to lead teams, guide workflows, and keep operations running smoothly.5+ years working in behavioral health and SUD programs , with hands-on experience in assessment, treatment, level of care decisions, and multidisciplinary collaboration.A strong toolkit of counseling approaches and diagnostic skills , with the ability to apply theories and techniques to diverse clients, including those with co-occurring disorders.A curious, research-loving mindset , staying plugged into clinical literature and SUD program development-because you're always growing and always improving.A belief in strength-based care , seeing the potential in every client and helping them tap into it.Solid familiarity with ASAM, ICD-10, and DSM criteria , and the ability to use them confidently in clinical decision-making.AAP / EEO STATEMENT
