Job Title : AWS Infrastructure Engineer – OpenShift (Remote, Contract)
Contract Duration : 6 months (with potential for extension)
Location : Remote (Client based in New Orleans, LA)
Start Date : ASAP
We are seeking a highly skilled AWS Infrastructure Engineer with expertise in Red Hat OpenShift to join a dynamic team supporting enterprise cloud initiatives for a major electric utility. This is a remote contract role with the potential for extension, offering the opportunity to lead infrastructure design and automation efforts in a regulated, mission-critical environment.
Key Responsibilities :
- Architect, deploy, and manage Red Hat OpenShift clusters on AWS using user-provisioned infrastructure (UPI).
- Design and implement CI / CD pipelines for automated infrastructure provisioning and secure application deployment.
- Ensure compliance with NERC CIP, FISMA, and internal cybersecurity standards.
- Build and maintain scalable, resilient AWS environments (VPCs, EC2, IAM, Route 53, Load Balancers, CloudWatch, S3, etc.).
- Develop Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform, Ansible, and CloudFormation.
- Integrate OpenShift with AWS services to enhance observability, performance, and security.
- Implement disaster recovery and backup strategies aligned with utility operational requirements.
- Define and enforce network and security controls for regulated environments.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to modernize workloads using containers and microservices.
- Mentor junior engineers and promote best practices in infrastructure automation.
- Maintain detailed architecture documentation and compliance evidence for audits.
- Participate in incident response and root cause analysis activities.
Required Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field (or equivalent experience).4+ years of experience in AWS infrastructure engineering, DevOps, or platform operations.Proven experience deploying OpenShift clusters on AWS using UPI.Strong CI / CD pipeline development experience (Jenkins, GitLab CI / CD, GitHub Actions, Tekton).Deep knowledge of AWS services and network security architecture.Proficiency in IaC tools (Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation).Advanced Linux system administration skills (preferably RHEL).Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration.Scripting skills (Python, Bash, or Go).Strong understanding of compliance and cybersecurity in regulated environments.Excellent communication, documentation, and collaboration skills.Preferred Qualifications :
Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Administration or RHCE.AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional.Familiarity with NERC CIP, FERC, or similar standards.Experience with observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, CloudWatch).Experience with GitOps tools (Argo CD, FluxCD).Background in utility IT / OT environments or SCADA-adjacent systems.Experience with Red Hat OpenShift Service on AWS (ROSA).
