The Role
As a Commissioning Tech your primary responsibility is to perform comprehensive commissioning activities on PV solar systems including rooftop, carport, and ground-mounted installations. This role ensures systems are installed to specification, functioning properly, and in compliance with performance, safety, and regulatory standards. The Commissioning Technician will coordinate with engineering, installation, and QA teams to verify quality and deliver completed systems ready for operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct on-site commissioning procedures for new PV solar installations
- Perform electrical and mechanical tests on modules, inverters, wiring, and related components
- Document and report discrepancies, malfunctions, or performance deviations
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and QA teams to execute commissioning plans
- Ensure all system installations meet safety codes and performance standards
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting during system startup
- Maintain daily logs and compile final commissioning documentation
- Assist in training field teams on commissioning best practices
- Stay informed of industry advancements, tools, and trends related to solar commissioning
Requirements
High school diploma or GEDPrior experience in commissioning, solar installation, QA / QC, or a similar technical fieldWorking knowledge of PV solar components and electrical systemsAbility to travel 75–80% of the timeValid driver's license with a clean driving recordAbility to work at heights and in outdoor environmentsStrong communication and documentation skillsTechnical certification or associate degree in a related fieldExperience commissioning rooftop, carport, and ground-mounted PV systemsFamiliarity with NEC, local codes, and solar safety standardsProficiency with test tools and diagnostic equipment for solar systemsPerks & Benefits
