The Field Project Manager oversees construction materials testing projects from planning through closeout, ensuring quality, compliance, and client satisfaction. This role includes managing budgets, reports, and field staff performance while coordinating with contractors and clients to resolve technical and administrative issues. The position also involves mentoring junior technicians, preparing proposals and final reports, and maintaining high standards of quality control across all project activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Tasks supporting the management of construction materials testing projects, including daily report review, collaborating with project teams, providing resolutions of technical and administrative issues as they arise, and training field staff on your projects.
- Manage project budgets, prepare invoices, pay applications, and assist with collection efforts.
- Supporting construction field staff by providing reference materials, plans and other relevant documentation necessary to complete inspections and tests.
- Making periodic site visits to the project sites to ensure construction field staff perform the necessary tests and inspections, confirming stage of construction, and coordinating with onsite contractors on test and inspection requirements.
- Ability to perform tests and inspections that would normally be performed by construction field staff, if necessary
- Drafting Final Reports, Certification and Completion letters for project closeout
- Ensuring staff compliance with quality control policies and procedures
- Working with, responding to, and taking directions from department directors
- Sense of ownership / pride in your performance & impact on company's success
- Prepare proposals and change orders for your projects; Host or attend project meetings with clients and follow up on reports as needed.
- Perform soil classifications and assign laboratory testing.
- Mentor junior technicians through hands on training and supporting them with continuing education certifications.

Skills, Knowledge, Expertise
Previous construction or field-testing experience of at least 5 yearsMust have current certifications from ACI, WACEL, ICC or VDOT and must maintain those certificationsAbility to read / interpret plans, building code, specifications, and procedure manualsMust maintain a safe driving record along with a valid driver's license to fulfill travel requirements of this positionMust have reliable transportationStrong marketing skills with the ability to establish and maintain client relationships.Strong communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing).Sound understanding of heavy construction safety, practices, and procedures.Sound knowledge of CMT principles, applications, and ASTM laboratory standards.Experience providing excellent customer serviceBenefits
