The Role

Under general direction, the Mental Health Specialist is responsible for providing counseling and casework services to individuals who have mental illnesses and / or substance abuse problems. Assesses patient's mental status through interviews and observations and then develops treatment plans or makes referrals to appropriate services.

Responsibilities

What You Will Do

• Works with patients and their families to determine goals for treatment.
• Solicits family information, observations and concerns.
• Interviews, observes and develops treatment plans for patients.
• Implements, goals, policies and activities designed to meet program objectives
• Conducts individual and group therapy sessions for patients with mental illness, emotional and substance abuse problems.
• May assess incoming clients and eventually help prepare them for transitioning home.
• Provides referrals to appropriate mental health resources.
• Monitors patient's treatment progress and keeps track of their mental status.
• Consults with other mental health professionals to provided effective courses of treatment.
• Provides crisis intervention services to patients who are in danger to themselves and others.
• Keeps accurate records of patient records and treatment provided.
• Evaluates and utilizes community mental health resources as needed.
• Keeps abreast of changes in field.
• Performs other duties as requested.
