Job description

The Provider Contracting Manager leads the development, negotiation, and contracting activities for providers, ensuring alignment with corporate strategy and compliance with regulations. This role focuses on building strong provider relationships while managing reimbursement models to enhance cost management and quality of care for members.
Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead contract negotiations with hospitals, physician groups, and ancillary providers across assigned markets.

  2. Develop and execute contracting strategies to achieve competitive provider networks, cost savings, and improved member access.

  3. Negotiate fee-for-service, value-based, and alternative payment arrangements.

  4. Identify gaps in provider networks and lead initiatives to recruit and contract with new providers.

  5. Monitor provider performance, reimbursement trends, and market dynamics to adjust contracting strategy.

  6. Partner with Provider Relations to resolve provider issues and support retention.

  7. Analyze contract performance, utilization, and cost impacts using financial models and actuarial data.

  8. Work with Finance and Actuarial teams to forecast contract impact and ensure sustainable reimbursement models.

  9. Ensure contracts comply with state/federal regulations, accreditation standards, and company policies.

  10. Manage and mentor a team of contracting specialists and analysts.

  11. Collaborate cross-functionally with various departments.

  12. Represent the organization in provider meetings, market events, and community forums.
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Economics, or related field.

  • 5–7+ years of experience in provider contracting, network development, or managed care.

  • Strong knowledge of provider reimbursement methodologies.

  • Demonstrated negotiation skills with complex provider organizations.

  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills.

  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Skills:

  • Master’s degree (MBA, MHA, MPH).

  • Experience in Medicaid, Medicare Advantage, or ACA Exchange markets.

  • Familiarity with state/federal regulatory requirements for provider networks.

  • Leadership or supervisory experience.
