STAFF RN, MEDICAL IMAGING
POSITION SUMMARY : Coordinates, delegates and provides professional care to department specific patient population, in accordance with prescribed, delegated medical regimen and medical center policies. The RN provides patient care based on the nursing process considering the physician and developmental age of the patient in compliance with the organizational policies and procedures and North Carolina State Board of Nursing regulations. Areas where the imaging nurse may function include the following modalities : Procedural Prep and Recovery Area, Interventional Radiology (IR), Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine. The RN provides pre, intra and post monitoring of patients undergoing interventional and / or diagnostic procedures. Responsible for having knowledge of patient's history, lab values, allergies, and need for pre-medication or treatments. The RN demonstrates knowledge of sedation medication, reversal agents, and monitoring equipment in accordance with hospital sedation policies and procedures. Demonstrates critical thinking skills and is able to assess and intervene as needed to maintain the patient's physiological homeostasis. The RN assists anesthesia staff during the care of anesthesia patients and provides Phase I and II monitoring for post anesthesia patients. The RN maintains sterile field and aseptic technique during intra-procedure cases. The RN serves as a preceptor for other Registered Nurses. The RN complies with hospital radiation safety practices and annual inspections. Additional specialized skills will and my include accessing port-a-caths, inserting pediatric foley catheters, cardiac monitoring, tracheal suction, and sheath pulls post arteriography. In addition, the RN may acquire new skills in the department as implemented by the department or Radiologist.
EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS, TRAINING and EXPERIENCE :
Minimum Required :
Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing with current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina.
One year nursing experience in an acute care setting.
Incumbent will be required to attain BCLS upon hire and will attain ACLS certification upon completion of orientation; recertification required bi-annually.
Must be proficient in keyboard operations and basic computer applications.
Must be proficient in starting IV's.
Preferred : Specialty certification. Knowledge of the field of radiology and diagnostic imaging.
ADDITIONAL SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS : Incumbent must demonstrate the ability to understand, communicate and react effectively and appropriately to the unique needs of neonatal, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Incumbent must demonstrate clinical competence per the job=s Skills Checklist before being allowed to perform independently.

Reports To : Radiologist(s) for carrying out prescribed and delegated medical regimen. Supervisor of Radiology Nurses for patient care, operational and administrative issues.
