Job Description
Job Description
This position is located in Glen Allen, VA, USA
This is a position for attorneys with less than 2 years of experience, but also encouraged to apply are new graduates awaiting bar passage or any Judge Advocates coming off active duty. If you want to practice criminal defense and be your own boss, then read the description carefully to see if this is the right job for you.
2 established criminal defense attorneys who are also solo practitioners are inviting a 3rd attorney to join their office suite by Short Pump as the 3rd solo practitioner. Although prior experience in criminal law is preferred, we are willing to not only train, but to mentor you as well so you get to the point where you will be a formidible criminal defense attorney trying your own major cases independently in front of juries. Remember, when you first get started, you don't know what you don't know, so you should surround yourself with other attorneys who can teach you.
In addition to quality legal work, we also want you to succeed financially. Part of your training and income will be when we hiring you when needed to help with our own cases, for which we guarantee a minimum of at least $30,000 per year, but it is likely to be much higher given our current volume. You can also expect many referrals from us for the many prospective clients we turn away each week because we're too busy or because someone cannot afford our prices (but can afford someone early in his or her career); we anticipate this being a huge source of referrals for you, and we will also help you out with those cases too. In addition to helping you land your own retained cases, we will also help you get on a couple local court appointed lists which are also a good source of income, especially since the recent increase in court appointed pay. So how much can you make? Between our cases, referrals, and court appointed, we would be surprised if your total gross was under $100,000, and could easily be much higher.
Being a good solo practitioner is more than just being a good lawyer, but also being good at business. We will not only teach you the practice of criminal defense, but also the business of practicing law. Law school doesn't teach you how to run your own law firm, but we will. This includes marketing, landing clients, bookkeeping, to market and land clients, booking and record-keeping, and more. We've been doing it successfully for some time, and we will show you how and teach you how to do it too. Most lawyers who launch a solo practice are very nervous about making enough money at first to at least cover expenses, but this will not apply to you because the 2 established lawyers are providing generous financial compensation, covering the following business expenses :
This is a way to start your own law firm and being your own boss with a sizeable safety net. If you are interested, then Applicants should send :
1. Resume
2. Cover letter - explaining your interest in this position
3. 2 references
And to show you read all this through to the bottom and aren't just clicking to apply to everything, in your cover letter at the end, please write “PS : Hamburgers.”
