Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a high-acuity Oncology Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with night shift and active OH or compact RN license required.
Responsibilities
Position based in a high-acuity Oncology PCU with 36 beds and over 24 beds dedicated to progressive carePrimarily adult medical oncology patient population, with rare pediatric patients usually managed by permanent staffCare involves complex cases such as solid tumor, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncologyPatient ratios are 1 : 4-5 for Med Surg Telemetry and 1 : 3 for PCU level careUse of GE B450 monitors for telemetry, Alaris pumps, Stryker beds, bladder scanners, and PCA pumpsNight shift schedule (3x12 hours, 19 : 00–07 : 30), with day / night shift options potentially availableRequired to float to units of equal or lower acuitySelf-scheduling available to request preferred shiftsEMR system not specifiedResponsibilities focus on high-acuity progressive care for patients requiring complex monitoring and interventionEmphasis on infection prevention protocols and fall managementOrientation includes one week of Monday–Friday day shifts and a second week of on-unit precepted orientationFingerprints for Ohio compliance must be completed promptly upon contract signatureMust submit any requested time off with initial considerationFirst week of orientation is on day shift, with subsequent orientation shifts scheduled on-unit with a preceptorLocal candidates are accepted at the same rate as travelersHoliday and weekend shifts may be required based on scheduling needsRequirements
Valid OH or compact RN license in hand at the time of considerationGraduation from an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program requiredMinimum 1 year of recent high-acuity PCU experience requiredCertifications required : BCLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)Skill in interpretation of dysrhythmias and rapid response team participationProficiency required in central line care, blood product administration, PCA management, starting IVs, heparin protocols, cardiac drip management (including titration), and tracheostomy careAbility to manage various specialized equipment, including monitors and pumps as outlined in the job detailsTwo professional references required, including at least one manager / director or formal supervisor within the past two yearsOncology experience and previous travel experience preferred but not requiredFormer employees eligible if separated from the facility for at least 6 months; current employees are not eligible for travel positions at Ohio State University hospital locationsBenefits
