ROLE OVERVIEW
The Human Resources Director provides strategic leadership and hands-on oversight of all HR functions across Wooddale Church. This role is responsible for the administration, coordination, and continuous improvement of HR operations, ensuring alignment with both professional best practices and the spiritual mission of the Church.
As a trusted advisor to staff, pastors, and executive leadership, the HR Director plays a pivotal role in fostering a healthy, mission-aligned workplace culture. The position requires a unique blend of strategic insight and operational execution, in leading initiatives in recruitment, compensation, benefits, talent development, and organizational culture in ways that reflect Wooddale’s commitment to honoring God by making more disciples for Jesus Christ.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Organization, Employee Relations & Culture Stewardship
- Partner with leadership to strategically align human resource processes and initiatives to the organizational culture, mission, and vision of Wooddale Church
- Design and execute HR initiatives to address organizational change and improvements.
- Promote a culture of belonging, spiritual integrity, and mutual respect.
- Serve as a trusted advisor for conflict resolution and performance concerns.
- Facilitate onboarding and offboarding processes that reflect the church’s values.
- Lead and execute annual employee engagement review processes.
- Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
- Administer all leave programs such as FMLA or personal leaves.
- Implement performance review systems tailored to ministry and operations roles.
- Create development pathways and training programs that provide internal development opportunities for staff growth and succession.
2. Talent Acquisition & Succession Planning
Develop and oversee recruitment strategies for pastors, ministry staff, and support roles.Partner with hiring managers to define role requirements and create compelling job descriptions.Oversee hiring process ensuring consistency, continuous improvement, and compliance with employment regulations.Maintain succession planning models to anticipate staffing needs across ministries.3. Compensation, Benefits & Compliance
Conduct salary benchmarking and manage compensation structures for all employees.Analyze trends in compensation and benefits; research and propose compensation strategies to ensure the organization attracts and retains top talent.Oversee benefits administration, including health, retirement, and clergy housing allowances.Manage the design, implementation, and administration of all wellness and benefit plans, including the annual open enrollment process.4. Policy Development, HR Operations & Systems
Maintain and update employee handbooks, HR policies, and codes of conduct.Ensure compliance with employment law, safeguarding policies, and Wooddale guidelines.Coordinate background checks, mandatory trainings, and incident reporting protocols.Advise leadership on HR-related legal and ethical risks.Oversee HRIS platforms, personnel records, and data privacy compliance.Manage timekeeping, PTO tracking, and payroll coordination.Generate HR reports and dashboards for leadership and board review.Streamline workflows for efficiency and transparency.Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations and regularly review organizational policiesQUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s preferred). HR Professional Certification required, Sr. Certification preferred.Continuing education in nonprofit HR and employment law is a plus.Seven years+ of progressive HR experience, ideally with 2+ years in a leadership role.Experience in nonprofit, ministry, or faith-based organizations highly valued.Proven success in recruitment, compensation strategy, benefits administration, and employee relations.Understanding of 501(c)(3) employment structures, board governance, and pastoral employment nuances.Ability to develop and execute HR strategic plans aligned with organizational mission.Skilled in policy development, performance management, and organizational design.Proficiency in HRIS systems, payroll coordination, and data privacy compliance.Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills with emotional intelligence.Ability to coach and counsel pastors and staff through transitions and challenges.Experience facilitating staff development, training programs, and culture initiatives.Ability to integrate spiritual discernment into HR decision-making.Servant leadership mindset with a collaborative, grace-filled approach.Ability to work with highly confidential information and act with integrity and professionalism.Deep commitment to Wooddale’s mission and values.Subscribe to and affirm the Statement of Faith and Covenant of Wooddale Church.Become or remain a member in good standing of Wooddale Church and is regular participant in public worship at Wooddale Church.RELATIONSHIPS

Wooddale Church offers a comprehensive benefits package for all full-time employees working 40+ hours, including options to select Medical (30+ hours), Dental, Life / AD&D, HSA, Flex, LTD, as well as optional Vision, Life / AD&D, STD, a Health & Wellness Plan, and a 403(b) retirement plan with company match and immediate vesting. The salary range for this role is $70,000 - $85,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
