Axalta Coating Systems is seeking an Engineer to join its Process Technology Team at our High Point plant. The successful candidate for this job will be a key member of the Global Process Technology organization.

Summary

The primary responsibility of this position is to advance fundamental understanding and execution of the scale-up and alignment processes in support of Axalta growth and lean initiatives. This position also has responsibility to develop or improve coatings process technologies and formulations. The focus will be on paint, coatings and finished product scale-up, manufacturing support, and overall process improvement. This includes the use of various measurement techniques to quantify paint properties and understanding the relationship between key product attributes and critical process factors from laboratory to commercial scale.

Job Responsibilities

  • Design and perform experiments to develop and / or improve manufacturing processes and coatings formulations.
  • Collaborate with product / coating formulators to scale up and align new or modified products.
  • Advance fundamental understanding of coatings product and process technology.
  • Participate in manufacturing cross functional forums to support and / or troubleshoot plant process and quality issues by interacting with personnel at all levels of the organization.
  • Provide coaching on technical issues to on-site peers, off-site technology resources, and technicians.
  • Work with self-managed teams to organize workflow including setting and meeting deadlines and adhere to core values including safe work practices.
  • Function as key point of contact on teams related to quality, management of change, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS degree in Chemical Engineering or related discipline, with a minimum of 5 years of work experience in a manufacturing or R&D lab environment
  • Knowledge in the areas of polymer sciences and polymer structure / property relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to work and contribute to team environment.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership skills.
  • Able to effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Effective written and oral communication.
  • Knowledge of designed experimentation and statistical data analysis.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Science (MS)
  • Basic knowledge of techniques for coatings and polymers characterization.
  • Knowledge of coatings science, formulation and manufacturing technology.
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing techniques and Six Sigma methodology
