Responsibilities and Opportunities
In this role, you will.
- Function as a technical specialist or in a lead substation design role encompassing EHV transmission level voltage class.
- Under general direction, develop and apply advanced engineering techniques, concepts and approaches to complex engineering problems.
- Provide technical guidance over a group or supervise engineering staff on substation design projects.
- Develop, validate, and present specialist / technical output as required.
- Lead other engineers and interface directly with clients.
- Be responsible for the overall execution and quality of substation projects as a leader within a team environment.

Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an accredited programMinimum of 8 years related work experienceAbility to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (background check, drug screen, motor vehicle records search) as applicable by lawPreferred Qualifications
Power / Power Systems experience preferredQuality Assurance / Quality Control of EHV substation design projectsEHV Substation design experience (physical & P&C)Technical experience across multiple areasPerforms complex research and recommends equipment / materials selectionPrepare one-lines, connection diagrams, panel elevations and protection & control schematicsPrepare auxiliary power equipment sizing calculations and wiring diagrams for protective relaying panelsEngineering calculations for substation projects (lightning protection, conduit fill, station service loading, surge arrester sizing, voltage drop)RTU control, status and analog point lists, raceway / cable schedules, signage and nameplatesEquipment arrangement, grounding, foundation, and conduit plans for HV substationsReview shop drawings, vendor quotes, bid evaluationsDevelop construction release documentsExperience with 500 kV – 13.8 kV substations; open air and GISExperience with bus configurations, raceway drawings, grounding drawings, plan and section drawingsManage budgets, schedules, and quality; delegate and supervise work; communicate status to managementOther experience preferred

Engineering Standards
Develop and maintain budgets and schedules for multiple substation design projectsPerform EHV substation design (physical design, protective relaying / control) with focus on continuous improvementDevelop scoping documents for EHV substation projectsProvide guidance on department design guides, standards, codes, and BV policiesAssist in developing and updating engineering standardsProvide technical guidance to others across projects and disciplinesQuality / Continuous Improvement
Apply knowledge and comply with BV quality program for assigned tasksEnsure compliance with quality program during internal QA reviewsProvide guidance to others and support continuous improvementEngineering Production
Prepare complex engineering deliverables for large projectsLead data collection, analysis, and management for engineering workPrepare complex engineering calculations and manage budgets / schedules / qualityReview lower-level engineering work; may supervise larger production teamsProject Coordination
