The UHealth Laboratories / Pathology Department at the University of Miami has an exciting opportunities for a Supervisor Phlebotomy in the UTower hospital.
CORE JOB SUMMARY
The Supervisor Phlebotomy assumes responsibility for the daily supervision of phlebotomy operations within their specified location including the daily operation and duties of phlebotomists. The incumbent performs teaches and monitors all functions within the laboratory including but not limited to scheduling specimen collection labeling receipt processing delivery and archiving. This individual collaborates with various health professionals within the organization to complete tasks daily.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Supervises patient phlebotomy by prescribed technique outlined in the phlebotomy procedure manual.
2. Supervises all phlebotomy activities to include training evaluation and documentation of department staff. Provides orientation and training for staff to ensure comprehension of company policies and procedures.
3. Ensures specimen integrity by enforcing the laboratorys procedures for collection handling and processing.
4. Maintains implements adheres to and enforces departmental operating policies and procedures. Participates in continuing performance improvement to insure continuous improvement of services provided.
5. Interacts with patients relative to their age specific physical and psychosocial needs.
6. Makes inpatient / CTYU phlebotomy rounds as scheduled.
7. Performs blood collection (venipuncture or fingerstick).
8. Answers questions and resolves problems pertaining to test requisitions.
9. Logs in specimens following standard operating procedures.
10. Files laboratory reports as per department protocol.
11. Maintains adequate inventory levels and rotates previous stock.
12. Keeps laboratory clean neat and organized and assists in the maintenance of hardware.
13. Provides support to all areas when specimen transport and computer contact systems are down.
14. Attends appropriate orientation and training courses to maintain competency in job skills and knowledge.
15. Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

Education :
Bachelors degree in relevant field required
Experience :
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience required
Certification and Licensing :
