Job description

Division Safety Manager

The Division Safety Manager leads the development, implementation, and oversight of workplace safety practices to ensure a safe and compliant environment for all employees. This role plays a key part in fostering a culture of safety by proactively identifying risks, addressing concerns, and collaborating with employees, trade partners, and controlling contractors. This position also oversees safety training programs for both employees and subcontractors, ensuring that all parties are equipped with the knowledge and resources needed to maintain the highest standards of safety on every job site.

The Division Safety Manager is responsible for :

  • Ensuring all policies, programs, and daily operations comply with applicable local, state, and federal laws and procedures.
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of safety and job training policies and procedures.
  • Maintaining a strong field presence and building rapport with the field team members, trade partners, controlling contractors, and job hosts.
  • Overseeing the maintenance of OSHA documentation, including SDS binders and chemical inventories.
  • Conducting random and requested project site visits to uphold Tri-City Safety Standards and OSHA compliance.
  • Achieving and maintaining proficiency in training for all onsite equipment and required competencies.
  • Forwarding all site-related training documentation to the Safety / Training Director.
  • Providing input on bids related to safety costs and labor hours required for safety procedures.
  • Participating in industry organizations focused on safety, training, and construction as directed.
  • Responding immediately to OSHA inspections and remaining on site until the inspector departs, even if the inspection is unrelated to Tri-City Electrical Contractors, Inc.
  • Delivering safety training during Superintendents' meetings.
  • Supporting the Safety / Training Director with technical trade-related training.
  • Pursuing professional continuing education opportunities, with emphasis on train-the-trainer programs.
  • Collecting OSHA, safety, and workers' compensation investigation data from project sites as requested.
  • Assisting in managing the Corporate Clothing Store.
  • Supporting school-to-work programs by monitoring on-site mentoring.
  • Maintaining accurate records and completing detailed reports on time.
  • Keeping OSHA certifications current.
  • Assisting in conducting and presenting new hire orientation.
  • Promoting and supporting the company's apprenticeship program.
  • Overseeing Tri-City property for safety and health-related concerns.
  • Serving as a resource to other contractors as directed or requested.
  • Staying current with emerging safety issues and regulations.
  • Tracking training documentation for all Tri-City employees and subcontractors.
  • Engaging with other safety and training professionals to share best practices and strengthen industry standards.
  • Facilitating training sessions, including scheduling classes, securing rooms, and arranging refreshments.
  • Maintaining the approved drivers list across all divisions.
  • Assisting the Safety / Training Director in providing technical trade-related training.
  • Partnering with HR on workers' compensation investigations and fact-finding related to injuries, as needed.
  • Investigating accidents, near misses, and safety violations to identify trends and recommend preventive measures.
  • Identifying and assessing hazardous conditions and practices, and developing appropriate hazard control programs.
  • Conducting regular safety inspections and hazard assessments, assigning responsibilities and deadlines to resolve issues.
  • Communicating safety programs effectively to increase overall employee awareness and knowledge.
  • Delivering or overseeing both on-the-job and classroom training for safety and technical programs.
  • Implementing and enforcing the Safety, Health & Environmental Program (SHEP).

This position directly supervises employees and carries out supervisory responsibilities per the organization's policies, procedures, and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.

Required Education and Experience :

  • Three to five (35) years of high voltage electrical safety experience required with knowledge of associated safety standards (OSHA, NFPA 70E) or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Minimum training in OSHA 500 and OSHA 501.
  • Trained in the use of PSC, Hilti, Ramset, Cadweld, Scaffold, First Aid, and CPR.
  • Ability to understand and interpret system one-line drawings and the operation of electrical equipment and testing devices.
  • Excellent ability to review, organize, and analyze information.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematical operations and calculations (e.g., addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, order of operations) to calculate labor, materials, and / or cost estimates for projects and work orders, etc.
  • Working knowledge of National Electrical Codes and basic electrical systems and installation.
  • Must have the ability to effectively read, write, and communicate in the English language at a 12th-grade level.
  • Preferred Education and Experience :

  • General Office Environment : This position operates in a professional office environment, using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, etc.
  • Environmental Conditions : The work is performed indoors in a climate-controlled setting with minimal exposure to loud noise, temperature variations, or other environmental factors.
  • Physical Demands :

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and / or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the day.
  • Must be able to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
  • Ability to wear company-approved Personal Protective Equipment per local, state, federal, or OSHA regulations.
  • The employee must frequently lift and move items over 50 pounds.
  • Requires the ability to perform physical duties listed above for extended periods.
  • Sitting / Standing : Requires prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, though there may be opportunities for standing and moving around the office as needed.
  • Manual Dexterity : Frequent use of hands to operate computer keyboards, mouse, and other office tools, as well as to handle paperwork.
  • Visual Requirements : The ability to read and interpret data on computer screens and printed documents is essential.
  • Mobility : Occasional lifting of objects weighing up to 25 pounds, such as files, documents, or office supplies, may be requested. Must be able to access all areas of the facility and projects to determine purchasing needs.
  • Communication : Regular communication with colleagues, vendors, and other stakeholders requires the ability to exchange information effectively in both verbal and written form.

  • Travel is primarily local, although minimal out-of-area and overnight
