Job description

Position Overview

The System Administrator position supports the design, configuration, maintenance, and improvement of the physical network and assists district staff and students in deploying, maintaining, and using district-wide technology to meet district objectives. The role requires proficiency in a wide range of systems, hardware, software, and electronic curriculum used in an educational setting. The ideal candidate is a collaborative, project-managed, and technologically advanced individual capable of working well with interdepartmental teams and individuals.

Salary

Starting wage $22.51 to $29.09 per hour, depending on experience.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Provides server, end-user workstation, and network support.
  • Helps install, maintain, and upgrade network switches.
  • Installs, maintains, and upgrades desktop computers.
  • Deploys software.
  • Performs common Active Directory operations as needed.
  • Helps troubleshoot issues with DHCP, DNS, Group Policy, VLANS, switches, IP phones, etc.
  • Prioritizes tasks and takes initiative to independently complete and / or foresee the need to complete a project or task with little or no supervision.
  • Demonstrates ownership of his / her responsibilities, and accountability.
  • Research solutions to technology problems.
  • Assists and trains other Technology and Information Services staff.
  • Assists other Technology and Information Services staff with the development of technology documentation.
  • Researches and reviews computer hardware and software capabilities, uses, etc., and makes recommendations regarding updates and upgrades.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of available computer software and computer usage in schools; and upgrades computer skills as needed.
  • Provides all district staff with technical support in individual settings.
  • Participates in technology support, planning, and tracking.
  • Interfaces with technology coordinator to facilitate routine support and technology maintenance.
  • Provides follow-up support to district staff.
  • Configures, installs, and manages network switches and access points and other network devices.
  • Complies with applicable District, state, local, and federal laws, rules, regulations.
  • Follows and maintains knowledge of applicable District policies and procedures.
  • Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff, administrators, and parents / guardians and resolves conflict in a professional manner.
  • Communicates clearly with coworkers and other staff.
  • Dress professionally for the position.
  • Attends work daily as assigned and is punctual.
  • Additional duties may be assigned as the needs of the District are determined.

  • Mandatory reporter for suspected child abuse to the Child Welfare Office or a law enforcement agency as obligated by law. If you suspect a known child in the district is being abused, you must also report it to your supervisor.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities

    All employees of Phoenix-Talent Schools have responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment.

    Qualifications

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and have the required knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Education and / or Experience : High school diploma or General Education diploma (GED). Associates or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science is preferred. Two to four years of demonstrated, specialized training as a computer technician or equivalent combination of education and / or experience.
  • Interpersonal Skills : Ability to effectively collaborate and communicate with other staff and stakeholders, including those from diverse language and cultural backgrounds. Ability to exercise discretion in confidential and sensitive matters. Ability to respond effectively with calm, tact and sound judgment in stressful situations.
  • Language Skills : Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to effectively and concisely summarize and communicate District goals, policies, practices and programs to staff and the community. Ability to effectively present information to staff. Preference may be given to applicants who are also fluent in verbal and written Spanish with a demonstrated high-level Spanish literacy.
  • Mathematical Skills : Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to perform technical calculations and analyze and interpret data.
  • Reasoning Ability : Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent attention to detail. Ability to respond effectively with calm, tact and sound judgment in stressful situations. Ability to exercise discretion in confidential and sensitive matters.
  • Computer Skills : Familiarity with Windows and Linux Server and Client operating systems. Familiarity with WAN and LAN technologies, DHCP, DNS, Group Policy, Active Directory, etc. Familiarity with network switches, access points, network firewalls, content filters, etc. Familiarity with Cisco and Juniper gear. To perform this job successfully, an individual will be highly proficient in the set-up and direct support of district servers, computers and computer software, printers, phone systems, and classroom AV equipment.
  • Other Skills and Abilities : Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as work effectively in a team setting. Proactive self-starter with an ability to work in a high-energy, high-volume, fast-paced environment. Flexibility and adaptability to changing situations, priorities and workloads, multitasking and critical thinking skills. Excellent organizational, time management, project management and problem solving skills to coordinate and complete multiple simultaneous projects. Ability and willingness to maintain a positive work environment, and establish positive work relationships with all district staff. Ability to maintain competency in all position responsibilities.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations : Certificates as determined by the District including valid Oregon driver's license or ability to obtain one upon hire. Must also have reliable transportation as this position will sometimes require travel between various schools.

    Work Environment

    The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. Occasional exposure to dust, fumes, dirt, heat, vibration, cold and water may occur.

    Evaluation

    Performance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions for the negotiated contract and District policies and procedures.

    Terms of Employment and Attendance Standards

    This position is 8 hours per day for 235 days per school year. Hours are generally between 8 : 00 am and 4 : 30 pm, but are subject to the needs of the district that may arise. Employee may, on occasion, be required to work an evening, early morning or weekend time. Salary and benefits to be established in accordance with the negotiated Classified Collective Bargaining Agreement. Position receives 88 hours of sick leave per year, for a full year of employment. Less than a full year will be prorated. In addition, personal leave, family leave and bereavement leave are available, please see the classified collective bargaining agreement for details. This position does not qualify for vacation time. Employer follows all OFLA and FMLA requirements. Any offer of employment made by Phoenix-Talent Schools is contingent upon satisfactory results of : Criminal history verification—a background check for any convictions directly related to the duties and responsibilities of the position.
