Description : Provides specialized technical work in the enforcement of County Ordinances and Regulations. Provides zoning information, conducts field inspections for code compliance, issues citations, refers to zoning maps and plats, researches property legal information and testifies at hearings relating to violations or citations. Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements : Requires two (2) years in code and zoning enforcement or closely related experience based on area of assignment.
FACE Fundamentals Certification required.
Special Certifications and Licenses : Possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License at time of appointment, and must obtain and maintain authority to drive on County business. Requires Fundamentals of Code Enforcement certification by the Florida Association of Code Enforcement (FACE) at time of appointment.

Scope of Work : The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary. Broward County Building Code Division (BCD) is seeking a Code Enforcement Inspector, to join the Broward County Municipal Services District, Code Compliance Section. This position may require night and weekend hours. This is technical work in the enforcement of Chapter 39 Zoning of the Broward County Code of Ordinances. Under the general supervision of the Code Enforcement Supervisor, the incumbent will be responsible for providing zoning information, conducting field inspections for code compliance with codes and regulations, issuing citations, referring to zoning maps and plats, researching legal information on properties within its jurisdiction and testifying at hearings related to violations and / or citations. Some of the Code Enforcement Inspector's tasks include performing zoning permit inspections, rental property inspections, land use and zoning inspections under the codes and regulations, researching and reviewing legal descriptions, plat restrictions and property ownership information, conducting field investigations to determine compliance of properties, testifying at hearings regarding notices of violation or citations issued to code violators, and answering inquiries from architects, attorneys, real estate personnel, building contractors and the general public regarding land usage, zoning codes and related ordinances. Work is performed with considerable independence within established codes, regulations, and technical guidelines. Performs related work as required.
Work Environment :
Physical Demands : Performs light work that involves walking or standing most of the time and involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis, or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of electronic office machines such as computers and laptops within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.
Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment) : Involves routine and frequent exposure to traffic; moving machinery.
