SCHEDULE : This role is in-person, Monday-Friday but may require weekends / holidays to meet the needs of the shelter.
ABOUT GATEWAY WEST
Gateway West, located at 7440 Jim McDowell NW, is the city’s largest shelter and serves an average of 600 people per night, with cold winter nights bringing in more than 700 people. The shelter offers a safe and welcoming environment to men and women experiencing homelessness in Albuquerque. The center is open year-round, offering meals, a warm bed, and secure under-bed storage. Shuttle service is provided daily.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Homeless Shelter Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the operations of the shelter, ensuring a safe, efficient, and supportive environment for residents. This role focuses on staff management, operational logistics, client services, and compliance with regulatory standards. The supervisor plays a critical role in fostering a welcoming atmosphere and promoting the well-being of individuals experiencing homelessness.
IN-PERSON LEADERSHIP
Be hands-on and actively engaged with and empower your team at the shelter!
- Supervise shelter staff, including case managers, intake coordinators, and support personnel
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to staff
- Facilitate training sessions to enhance staff skills and knowledge
- Coordinate staffing schedules to ensure adequate coverage and support during peak hours

Crisis Intervention : Expertise in managing emergencies and high-stress situations with compassion and professionalismSchedule management : Strong skills in managing the schedules of support staff to assure all areas of the shelter are being covered 24 / 7Data Management : Proficient in using data analytics to track shelter operations, client progress, and program effectivenessCommunity Outreach : Strong skills in building partnerships with local agencies, service providers, and community organizationsTrauma-Informed Care : Demonstrated expertise in providing services that recognize and respond to the effects of trauma on individuals and families, ensuring a compassionate and supportive approach in all interactionsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
Education / Experience :
Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Public Administration, or a related field; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degreeMinimum of 3-5 years in social services or shelter managementAtleast 1-2 years in a supervisory roleOther Requirements :
