Position Overview
The University of Kansas is seeking a General Maintenance Repair Technician Senior in the Plumbing unit. This position is responsible for leading a team to perform a wide variety of maintenance and emergency repair tasks to University buildings (physical structure, mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems) while also performing some tasks independently. This position may also be involved in a regular program of inspection and repair at a journeyman level using one or more skilled trades. This position requires the operation of work issued vehicles.

Monday-Friday, 7 : 30am-4pm

Job Description
50% – This is a lead position to assist in the troubleshooting, repair and preventative maintenance for various plumbing and structural equipment. Installs and maintains assembles and installs a variety of metal and non-metal piping and pipe fittings for water and compressed air pipes, couplings, traps, and pipe fittings, including those made of brass, copper, lead and plastic. Joins piping by means of threaded, calked and soldered. Secures pipes to structure with clamps, brackets and hangers, using hand and power tools. Maintains water softeners. Installs and maintains drinking fountains, lavatories, commodes, etc. Performs all work in accordance with local building codes and KU standards. Assists in training and mentoring general maintenance staff.
40% – Assist other trade groups such as electrical, HVAC and carpentry as needed. Responds to emergency calls such as loss of domestic or heating water or other emergency calls as needed.
5% – Other Related Work as Assigned : Maintains an adequate supply of tools, parts, and supplies for jobs. Responds to after-hours emergency calls as needed. Assists with other maintenance areas and in other work areas as assigned. Assists with snow removal and surface treatment.
5% – Performs other related work as assigned.
