Position Summary
The Cannabis Extraction Technician Manager is responsible for leading and managing cannabis extraction and processing operations within a licensed extraction facility. This role requires strong technical extraction knowledge, a high level of safety awareness, strong leadership ability, and hands-on experience with extraction equipment and post-processing methods. Operating within Oregon’s regulatory framework, the Extraction Technician Manager ensures consistent, high-quality product output while maintaining strict compliance with OLCC regulations, METRC requirements, and internal SOPs.
This position oversees day-to-day extraction operations, supports production planning, trains and develops extraction staff, and drives continuous improvement across extraction, post-processing, and product development processes.
Key Responsibilities
Extraction and Processing Operations
- Manage daily extraction and processing operations in accordance with SOPs and production schedules
- Operate and oversee extraction and processing equipment, including hydrocarbon systems (Luna Tech) and wiped film distillation units
- Oversee solventless production processes, including rosin manufacturing (pressing, curing, handling, and workflow management)
- Monitor and adjust process parameters to optimize yield, consistency, and product quality
- Prepare, stage, and handle raw materials and in-process products for extraction and post-processing
- Ensure smooth production handoff between preparation, extraction, post-processing, and packaging teams
- Support scaling initiatives, workflow efficiencies, and production output improvements
Quality Control
Ensure intermediate and finished products meet quality standards for consistency, cleanliness, potency goals, and appearanceReview and confirm accurate labeling, batch tracking, and material movementIdentify and address abnormalities such as contamination risks, odor issues, color variation, and yield discrepanciesCommunicate quality concerns immediately and support corrective actionsCompliance and Documentation
Ensure all extraction activities comply with OLCC regulations, internal SOPs, sanitation standards, safety requirements, and security protocolsOversee accurate batch data entry in METRC and / or internal tracking systems (inputs, outputs, waste, process logs, batch IDs)Maintain strict chain-of-custody and inventory controls for all materials and finished productsEnsure extraction areas remain audit-ready at all timesEquipment Maintenance and Safety
Ensure daily cleaning and sanitation of extraction equipment and workspacesLead routine equipment inspections, safety checks, and preventative maintenance practicesReport and escalate malfunctions, safety issues, or repair needs to Maintenance and LeadershipSupport calibration and upkeep of equipment, gauges, and toolsEnforce PPE compliance and safe chemical / material handling practices across the teamTeam Leadership and Collaboration
Supervise and support extraction technicians and post-processing staff as assignedProvide training, coaching, and performance feedback to ensure team growth and complianceCoordinate with packaging, inventory, and operations leadership to maintain production flowAssist with R&D initiatives, new product development, and process improvement projectsPromote a culture of accountability, safety, efficiency, and qualityQualifications
Required
Must be 21+ and able to obtain and maintain an active OLCC Marijuana Worker Permit2+ years of experience in cannabis extraction, processing, or manufacturing environmentsHands-on experience operating : wiped film distillation unit, Luna Tech hydrocarbon extraction machine, and rosin / solventless production processesStrong understanding of cannabis extraction fundamentals, production workflows, and safety standardsAbility to lift 40+ pounds, stand for extended periods, and work in variable temperature environmentsStrong documentation skills and ability to follow / implement SOPsPreferred
Prior experience in a licensed Oregon cannabis extraction facilityStrong working knowledge of METRC or other seed-to-sale tracking systemsExperience with post-processing techniques and scaling production outputPrior leadership experience managing a production or extraction teamExperience supporting R&D and continuous improvement initiativesWorking Conditions
