Description : RN - ICU position available. Facility is a teaching hospital with a Level 1 Trauma Designation. It has a total of 637 licensed beds. Each ICU unit has 10-20 beds. Patient types include Critical Care Unit, Medical ICU, Surgical Trauma ICU, Neuro ICU, Cardiovascular ICU, and Progressive Care Unit. Patient ratios in ICU are 1 : 1-2 and in PCU are 1 : 3-4. LPN ratio is 1 : 4-6. Most units have 1-2 CNAs per shift for patient assistance. CNA responsibilities include vital checks, blood glucose checks, bathing, bed changes, and patient safety. The unit has a nurse secretary from 7 AM-11 PM; after 11 PM, calls are managed by a house-wide secretary. There is a charge nurse on each shift. Most units conduct lab draw phlebotomy, with RNs drawing from central venous lines. A PICC team is available but there is no IV team. Resource nurses assist with discharge processes. Respiratory Therapy and hospitalists are available 24 / 7. Telemetry monitoring is centralized, and RNs will sign off on strips. The electronic medical record system used is EPIC. IV pumps are Alaris, and medication dispensing is via Pyxis. Monitors utilized in the units are Philips. Floating is required, with travelers utilized across Med / Tele units as needed. Scheduling includes a weekend rotation of 5-6 shifts out of 12 within a 6-week schedule. No call is required. Expectations include working one shift of each major holiday. Requests for time off must go through the manager. Team-oriented culture that is very busy. RN scrub color is navy. LPN scrub color is ceil blue.
