Project Architect

Michael Maltzan Architecture (MMA) is seeking a licensed Project Architect with 8+ years of experience in design-focused architectural practices. This position requires a candidate with proven expertise in leading complex projects from concept through construction, and a deep commitment to design excellence. Our practice works on a wide range of projects—from museums to affordable housing to infrastructure to urban design—both nationally and internationally. We work out of a collaborative studio in Silverlake, surrounded by models and drawings that tell the story of our projects and design process.

Pay

$85,000 - $125,000 annually

Responsibilities

• Extensive experience leading project teams through all phases of design and construction, producing clear, coordinated technical documents.
• Strong ability to problem-solve key design challenges and communicate solutions effectively to both design and construction teams.
• Skilled in navigating complex designs to align architectural intent with budget and technical feasibility.
• Proven expertise in consultant coordination, construction administration, and contract management.
• Proficient in budget development, cost tracking, and financial reporting.
• Strong time management skills with experience in project scheduling and work planning.
• In-depth knowledge of building codes, permitting, and coordination with regulatory agencies.
• Professional client-facing skills; able to represent the firm with clarity and professionalism.
• Broad project experience across residential, commercial, cultural, educational, and institutional sectors.
• Effective leadership and mentoring abilities; supports junior staff in a collaborative team environment.
• Excellent communication skills—verbal, written, and graphic.
• Current architectural license.
