Overview
This position reports to the Chief Technology Officer and is responsible for all cybersecurity strategies and operations for the college. The individual will lead the cybersecurity department, manage the institution’s cybersecurity risk posture, and strengthen its defense against internal and external threats. Responsibilities include developing and implementing comprehensive information security policies and procedures, leading incident response and investigations, conducting cybersecurity awareness sessions, managing internal and external audits, and ensuring third‑party information security compliance to protect the college’s information systems and data.
Minimum Education
- Bachelor’s degree required in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology or a related discipline. Master’s degree preferred.
- An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
Minimum Experience / Training
8 years of progressive experience working in cybersecurity or information technology.3 years of experience in a leadership or supervisory role.Industry certifications preferred (CISSP, CISM, CompTIA).Essential Functions
Daily – 20% Strategic Leadership : Serve as the cyber‑security expert, developing strategic vision and roadmap to mature the college’s posture; drive initiatives and new processes.Daily – 15% Compliance & Auditing : Lead the college’s compliance programs, overseeing testing and readiness for internal and external audits.Daily – 10% Security Awareness : Create a culture of awareness across the institution; develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive training program for students, faculty, and staff.Daily – 10% Risk & Deficiency Management : Identify control deficiencies, evaluate risks, and develop mitigation plans.Daily – 10% Third‑Party Risk Management : Review vendor, software, and cloud agreements to ensure they meet institutional standards.Weekly – 10% Project & Operations Management : Oversee the development, implementation, and management of all cyber‑security projects and initiatives.Other – 5% Technology & Budget : Research, assess, and recommend technologies; manage budget and procurement needs.Other – 5% Professional Development : Maintain knowledge of the threat landscape by attending meetings, training, workshops, conferences, and conducting independent research.Other – 5% Business Continuity : Own and maintain incident response and IT continuity plans, ensuring readiness through exercises and drills.Other – 5% Incident Escalation : Serve as the escalation point for major incidents; provide leadership during emergencies with 24 / 7 on‑call availability as required.Other – 5% Team Leadership : Lead, mentor, and develop a team of cyber‑security professionals, fostering high performance and continuous improvement.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Deep understanding of threats, techniques, and implications across platforms, including on‑premise networks, cloud environments, and applications.Proven experience in core operations : incident response, threat analysis, digital forensics, and troubleshooting complex issues.Expertise in vulnerability management, network security, application security, and cloud security architecture and best practices.In‑depth knowledge of governance frameworks, risk management technologies, and vendor risk assessment.Strong command of regulatory and compliance requirements relevant to higher education (FERPA, GLBA, HIPAA, PCI‑DSS, GDPR and other data privacy laws).Experience with preparing for and managing internal and external audits.Expertise in developing and executing project plans, ensuring timely, on‑budget delivery with desired results.Excellent communication skills; ability to present complex technical information and strategic recommendations to audiences ranging from technical staff to executive leadership and external vendors.Strong analytical and critical thinking skills; ability to apply theories and expertise to solve complex situations.Must be available 24 / 7 to lead the response to critical emergencies as needed.Culture and Benefits
