About the Agency : The Mission of the Virginia National Guard Commonwealth ChalleNGe Youth Academy is to intervene in the lives of 16-18 year old teenagers by providing the values, skills, education, and self-discipline needed to produce responsible, productive citizens, and to do so in a highly structured learning environment. Purpose of Position : Supervises Team Leaders / Shift Supervisors and the daily execution of cadet training, Military Science curriculum development and execution and curriculum / execution of Core Components requirements (Physical Fitness / Leadership / Followership / Service to Community). The incumbent of this position will work 2nd shift (1 : 00pm-9 : 30pm) as well as weekends, rotating shifts, and overtime as directed. This position reports directly to the Commandant.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be willing and able to work 2nd shift (1 : 00pm-9 : 30pm) as well as weekends, rotating shifts, and overtime as directed; Must be familiar with military standards for Drill & Ceremony and physical training; Must be able to meet the following physical requirements : running (at least one mile), push-ups, sit-ups, and ability to stand for long periods of time; Knowledge of the principles and techniques of management : organization, planning, staffing, training, and reporting within Operations Department; Ability to input cadet information into a cloud-based platform / database; Ability to plan, direct, develop internal procedures and coordinate program and administrative activities within the Operations; Ability to supervise, evaluate operational situations, and analyze data and facts in preparation for administrative and policy decisions; Interpersonal skills required Must be able to build and maintain successful working relationships with both adults and students from all backgrounds; Ability to communicate and coordinate cadet parent / guardian matters / issues; Ability to analyze and evaluate cadet conduct and discipline; Ability to hold operations staff accountable for meeting standards of conduct, policy and procedures / SOPs; Ability to evaluate student conduct / misconduct to determine and execute the best course of action; Ability to communicate policy and procedure effectively; Previous supervisory experience (to include hiring, employee evaluations, coaching, and disciplinary actions) required; Capable of performing clerical functions and above working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel); Demonstrated supervisory and performance management experience required; Operations Management experience required; Experience working with at-risk youth; Valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record required.
Additional Considerations
Leadership gained through senior career military service; Extensive experience successfully supervising five or more employees; Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or B preferred.
