SUMMARY
Responsible for reviewing mortgage applications to determine if the loan applicants qualify for funding. This includes r eviewing the credit, income, asset, and collateral documentation to support satisfactory risk and eligibility to agency and investor standards. Also responsible for balancing the mortgage related general ledger accounts on a monthly basis.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Underwrites residential loans ensuring compliance with appropriate company and secondary market investor standards.
- Responsible for examining loan documentations for accuracy and completeness while working with loan originator and / or processors to secure all required documents.
- Review and analyze loan files submitted for borrower to ensure file meets loan program requirements. Includes analysis of Credit, Capacity, Capital, Collateral and supporting documentation.
- Responsible for completing the TRID review on all loan files and the underwriting of residential loans, ensuring compliance with appropriate company policies.
- Identify and calculate loan risk.
- Condition files for missing or supporting documentation.
- Review and clear conditions.
- Approve, counter or deny loan files.
- Monitor and approve construction draw request.
- You may be required to work with more senior mortgage underwriters on loan exceptions having the authority to withdraw and decline loans.
- Required to respond directly to individual and investor audits.
- Includes all levels of underwriting authority and exception levels.
- Position is subject to SAFE Act registration requirements.
- Perform duties as defined in the Bank Secrecy Act / Anti-Money Laundering Program
- Balance all mortgage related general ledger accounts each month.
- Provide backup support for both the long-term and portfolio mortgage closing positions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
High School Diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree preferred.Minimum of one-year recent manual underwriting experience. Years of relevant banking or financial services funding experience also accepted.Knowledge of DU / LP preferred.Proven negotiation and problem-solving skills.Must show strong capacity to address credit related issues and points of risk to ensure that underwriting meets quality assurance standards.Strong analytical and judgment skills required.Strong skillset in relation to prioritization, organization and time management.Strong interpersonal communication skills, to include oral and written communications.Thorough understanding of credit and an ability to review complex financial documents. This includes the ability to assess an individual's creditworthiness while adhering to all regulatory and compliance requirements and the ability to make credit recommendations.Knowledge of Secondary Market Products regulations from origination to post-closing; as well as an understanding of loan products such as Conventional, FHA, USDA, and VA are desired.Knowledge of real estate lending criteria, compliance, federal / state regulations.Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment typical to Mortgage Banking.Excellent Customer Service Skills, including presenting a professional image in dealing with customers, interdepartmental and external representatives.Ability to work under deadlines and ability to prioritize.Strong attention to detail, good judgment and decision-making skills.Ability to meet production, quality and service standards along with providing direct coaching and feedback to ensure quality.Self-motivated.Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, while practicing sound lending judgment.Computer proficiency including high comfort level with Microsoft office product suite.Math Proficiency.Experience working in a fast paced, high-volume environment with the ability to consistently meet deadlines and work both independently and as part of a team.Ability to analyze, reconcile, and maintain mortgage related general ledger accounts to ensure financial accuracy and integrity.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
