Comp : Project-based (rate based on scope + experience)

Reports to : Editor-in-Chief

About the Role AVVY is the first-of-its-kind print magazine & digital landscape dedicated to avatar fashion and digital identity. We’re launching our debut issue this fall — and we’re looking for a Creative Director to own the editorial art direction of the entire magazine. From cover stories to cultural essays, you’ll design how every feature, profile, and recurring section comes to life visually. You’ll create layouts and page designs that are as stylish and editorially strong as the stories themselves — ensuring AVVY looks as good as it reads. Beyond print, your creative direction will help guide AVVY’s overall brand presence — making sure our Substack, social channels, and immersive touch points carry the same visual authority and style.

Art direct all editorial spreads and layouts for the quarterly magazine

Develop and maintain a cohesive visual style across features, profiles, and recurring sections

Collaborate with editorial, photography, and illustration teams to create culturally tuned, original page designs

Establish page composition, typography, and grid systems for maximum style and clarity

Ensure the AVVY brand’s look and feel is consistent across print, Substack, and promotional content

You’ve art directed editorial spreads for fashion, lifestyle, or culture magazines

You have a sharp eye for page composition, typography, and image treatment

You can balance variety across an issue with a unified brand feel

You’re culturally fluent and in sync with Gen Z & Alpha aesthetics

You thrive in collaborative environments and can translate ideas into impactful visuals
