Summary
The West Palm Beach VA Healthcare System is seeking an experienced full-time anesthesiology physician. The position requires experience in Anesthesia and Perioperative care administered in five general categories :
- Preanesthetic preparation and evaluation
- Daily OR management and surgical scheduling; anesthesia induction, maintenance, and emergence
- Post-anesthetic care and recovery
- Peri-anesthetic and clinical support functions
- Critical Care Medicine
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
Basic Requirements :
United States Citizenship : Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.Residency Training : Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program Anesthesiology leading to eligibility for board certification.Proficiency in spoken and written English.Board Certified in Anesthesiology.Physical requirements outlined below.Preferred Experience : Several years of clinical experience; Recent experience in vascular, thoracic, ENT, ortho, GU, and general surgery; Ability to practice both independently and with CRNAs.Physical Requirements : Must pass a pre-employment physical examination as required by VA Handbook 5019.Duties
This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT.Eligible applicants will be referred until all vacancies are filled.The Physician Anesthesiologist duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to :Performing and documenting a preanesthetic assessment and evaluation of the patient, including requesting consultations and diagnostic studies, selecting, obtaining, ordering, or administering preanesthetic medications and fluids, and obtaining informed consent for anesthesia.Developing and administering an anesthetic plan, which may include General, Regional, or Local anesthesia and intravenous sedation (monitored anesthesia).Selecting, obtaining, or administering the anesthetics, adjuvant drugs, accessory drugs, and fluids necessary to manage the anesthetic, to maintain the patient's physiologic homeostasis, and to correct responses to the anesthetic or surgery.Appropriately managing a patient's airway.Managing emergence and recovery from anesthesia by selecting, obtaining, ordering, or administering medications, fluids, or ventilatory support in order to maintain physiologic homeostasis, to provide relief from pain, anesthesia side effects, and to prevent or manage complications.Releasing or discharging patients from a post-anesthesia care area and providing post-anesthesia follow-up evaluation and appropriate care.Ordering, initiating, or modifying pain relief therapy through the utilization of appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic modalities.Responding to cardio-pulmonary emergency situations.Consultative care for the critically ill.Anesthesiology Service collaborates with other Services to establish guidelines for the safe administration of anesthesia and provides consultation on the monitoring and evaluation of anesthesia care management throughout the organization.Interdisciplinary collaboration with appropriate Services through a continuous quality improvement (TQ) program to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of patient care.J-18808-Ljbffr
