Transportation Supervisor

The Transportation Supervisor plays a pivotal role in overseeing and managing the transportation operations of the City of Annapolis (MD). The incumbent is responsible for ensuring the efficient and timely transportation of goods and materials while maintaining compliance with safety regulations and company policies. This role requires strong leadership skills, logistical expertise, and the ability to effectively manage a team of drivers and transportation staff. Supervises the daily operations of the City Municipal Transportation Services and does related work as required.

Essential Job Functions :

• Plans and schedules bus services including breaks of all operational personnel to provide uninterrupted public transportation services;
• Monitors vehicle locations and movement patterns and makes decisions affecting service scheduling and reliability;
• Supervises the daily work performance of operational personnel;
• Maintains adequate inventory controls;
• Performs or oversees the maintaining and processing of all operational records and reports;
• Responds to and reports upon complaints, incidents, accidents and other emergency situations;
• Monitors daily fare collection and deposits;
• Makes Mobility reservations and monitors service provided;
• Monitors operators' attendance and addresses any concerns;
• Monitors all communication, two-way radio, telephone and surveillance camera systems;
• Recommends disciplinary action as appropriate;
• Monitors vehicle operation performance on the road;
• Recommends route changes based on weather conditions, special events and road conditions;
• Operates buses as needed;
• Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities : Knowledge of State regulations and laws pertaining to motor bus operations; Knowledge of the operational principles and practices of modern transit systems; Knowledge of bus maintenance and repair programs; Ability to plan and supervise the work of others; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and with the public; Ability to read, understand and implement complex schedules and manuals; Ability to operate small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems; Ability to operate computers for data entry, word processing and / or recordkeeping purposes; Ability to operate handheld electronic devices including cell phones; Ability to operate and repair small / light equipment, such as power tools.

Minimum Qualifications : Graduation from an accredited High School or holds an acceptable equivalency diploma (GED); and three (3) years of related experience in a transit system in a driver leadership capacity. This position is designated as Safety Sensitive due to the tasks or duties that the employer reasonably believes could affect the safety and health of the employee performing the task, other individuals, and or may lead to damage to property. This position is subject to drug and alcohol testing to include pre-employment testing.

Special Qualifications : Possession of a valid Maryland Commercial Driver's License with passenger and air brake endorsements.

Physical / Mental Demands : The work is sedentary and generally the employee may be required to speak, walk, stand, bend, and / or carry light items to include paper, books or files. The work is sedentary work which requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and / or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Work Environment : The work environment entails minimal discomforts that may be associated with an office environment. Work is performed in a safe and secure work environment that may periodically have unpredicted requirements or demands.
