The Maine Department of Corrections is seeking a highly organized and experienced Staff Development Coordinator to join our team. The Staff Development Coordinator is responsible for the development of training plans and associated curriculum for the Maine State Prison, and ensuring that training aligns with the MDOC's mission, values, and goals. This role plays a vital part in enhancing the skills and knowledge of our team, contributing to improved job performance, staff retention, and overall organizational effectiveness.

We facilitate restorative justice practices that equip justice-involved people with the skills they need to be contributing members of society, including treatment, education, and job training.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Collaborate with department heads and subject matter experts to identify training needs, develop training programs, and ensure alignment with MDOC's mission, values, and goals.
  • Assess training effectiveness through feedback, surveys, and performance assessments, adjusting to improve program quality.
  • Maintain accurate records of training activities, attendance, and participant progress to meet compliance and reporting requirements.
  • Create and maintain training pathways for all employment levels, including mid-level management, administrative assistants, etc.
  • Collaborates with subject matter experts to ensure accurate, up-to-date training content that is designed for the adult learner and is delivered in a high-quality, engaging manner.
  • Evaluate training proposal designs, support trainer / instructor development, and directly instruct courses in areas of expertise, as applicable.
  • Maintain records of training and development activities, attendance, results of tests and assessments, and completion of retraining requirements.
  • Plans, organizes, assigns, and directs work activities to achieve established work goals and ensure consistent application policy.
  • Implements and complies with human resource laws, policies, procedures, and practices such as : AA / EEO, recruitment, employment, position classification, performance appraisals, training, discipline, contract administration, human resource components of security protocols of agency information security and confidentiality policies, and employee safety.
  • Monitors compliance with mandatory annual competencies.
  • Spearhead efforts to guarantee that all legal standards are met for continued work with state MDOC facilities, local law enforcement, and the Maine Criminal Justice Academy.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM THE JOB SUCCESSFULLY :

  • Knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of adult education principles, practices, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of education psychology.
  • Knowledge of on-the-job training methods.
  • Ability to supervise subordinate personnel.
  • Ability to assess agency training needs.
  • Ability to design education and training programs.
  • Ability to review, assess, and interpret workers' educational needs.
  • Ability to evaluate training programs.
  • Ability to use applicable computer programs.
  • Knowledge of department policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of departmental / institutional training needs.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

    A Bachelors Degree in Public Administration, Human Resource Management, Education or related field, and four (4) years' experience in personnel administration and / or the development and implementation of staff development training. Equivalent directly related experience may be substituted for education.
