Entry Level Substation Civil Engineer
POWER Engineers, a member of WSP, is currently seeking an energetic, self-starting civil engineer to support electrical substation design activities.
This position is located within the Power Delivery Northeast Civil / Structural Substation Department and is based in Freeport or Augusta, Maine; Foxborough, Massachusetts; Syracuse, New York; Ann Arbor, Michigan; and Columbus, Ohio. A hybrid work environment is available; employees must live within driving distance of one of the offices.
Roles and Responsibilities
- All aspects of substation civil design including permitting support, site design, foundation design, structure design, and control building design.
- Development of civil construction specifications, cost estimates, engineering proposals, and project schedules.
- Support of substation physical design with bus-analysis calculations and coordination with multiple disciplines.
- Preparation of calculation packages to satisfy client and code requirements.
- Understand and incorporate typical structural code requirements.
- Coordination with all disciplines contributing to electrical substation design.
- Occasional travel required.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor of Science in Civil / Structural Engineering from an accredited college.Proficiency in basic civil engineering tasks and independent creation of calculation packages.Mechanical reasoning skills and strong attention to detail.Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam, or the ability to complete the FE exam within one year.Strong command of the English language with effective written and oral communication skills.Legal authorization to work permanently in the U.S. without sponsorship.Desired Education and Experience
Three (3) or more years of civil design experience.Experience in electric utility substation design (15 kV through 500 kV).Familiarity with AutoCAD, MicroStation, RISA, MatchCAD, LPile, and Civil 3D.Geotechnical background.Professional Engineering license (PE) or ability to obtain licensure in multiple states.Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and budgets.Compensation & Benefits
