Join Our Team as an Advanced Emergency Technician (AEMT)

Department : Emergency Medical Services

Location : St. Lawrence Health

Hours Per Week : As needed (Per Diem)

Schedule : 12-hour variable shifts; weekends and holidays

Your expertise will play a vital role in stabilizing patients and ensuring their safe transport to medical facilities. Join us in this rewarding journey!

Your Responsibilities

  • Respond to emergency calls, assess patients’ conditions, and determine appropriate medical interventions.
  • Safely transport patients to medical facilities while monitoring their condition and providing necessary care.
  • Administer life-saving measures such as CPR, bleeding control, and airway management within your Scope of Practice.
  • Utilize essential medical equipment, including defibrillators and oxygen delivery systems.
  • Collaborate with paramedics, firefighters, law enforcement, and hospital staff for coordinated patient care.
  • Maintain accurate patient care reports, documenting assessments, treatments, and responses.
  • Ensure emergency vehicles and medical equipment are clean and ready for use.
  • Interpret instructions and calculate weight and volume ratios as needed.
  • Lift and move patients in challenging environments, including extreme terrain or temperatures.
  • Engage in continuous education to stay updated with medical protocols and enhance your skills.
  • Maintain composure and professionalism in high-pressure situations.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Work in various uncontrolled and potentially hazardous environments (indoor / outdoor, inclement weather).
  • Maintain physical readiness to assist in lifting / moving patients (up to 250 lbs. with partner assist).
  • Navigate uneven terrain and emergency conditions while walking, kneeling, crawling, or climbing.
  • Transport essential medical equipment without assistance.
  • Stay calm and focused in high-stress, emotionally charged situations.
  • What We’re Looking ForRequired Qualifications

  • AHA BLS for Healthcare Provider certification.
  • Valid NYS AEMT certification.
  • Valid NYS Driver's License.
  • Ability to exert 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and / or 25 to 50 pounds frequently.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma (or equivalent).
  • Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC) or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of medical procedures and emergency care techniques.
  • Physical Requirements

    This role involves heavy work, requiring constant walking, standing, or squatting, and the ability to move objects of varying weights.

    Compensation

    Pay Range : $19.50 - $25.00

    The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full-time applicant. Pay may be modified in the future and is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
