Surgery - General Physician

A prominent outpatient clinic is seeking a surgical specialist for an ongoing locum tenens assignment starting on September 30th, 2025. This role involves a mix of clinic days and call coverage, providing an opportunity to work in a dynamic setting with a diverse adult patient population. Ideal candidates will be proficient in performing endoscopies, laparoscopic surgeries, and general surgical procedures.

Key Details - Assignment Type : Locum Tenens- Setting : Outpatient Clinic- Start Date : September 30th, 2025- Schedule : Tuesday and Thursday, 8 : 30 AM - 4 : 00 PM, plus 10 days of 24-hour call- Patient Population : Adult- Location : Ottumwa, IA- Stipends : Housing and travel options can be discussed for non-local candidates

Job Responsibilities - Provide general surgical care to adult patients- Perform endoscopies, colonoscopies, and laparoscopic surgeries such as hernioplasty and appendectomy- Engage in outpatient clinic consultations and evaluations- Participate in a 24-hour call rotation as needed

Qualifications - Board Certification Eligible (no requirement for board certification)- ABLS, ACLS, and BLS certifications are required - Experience in general surgery, including laparoscopic procedures

Working Hours - Clinic days on Tuesday and Thursday, 8 : 30 AM - 4 : 00 PM- Additional clinic days may be available based on patient volume- 10 days of 24-hour call coverage per month

Skills - Proficiency in performing laparoscopic surgeries including cholecystectomy and Nissen fundoplication- Ability to perform upper and lower GI endoscopies- Preferred skills include head / neck surgery, chest wall procedures, and vascular surgery- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a patient-centered focus
