Overview
Position : Project Electrical Engineer (industry equivalent : Electrical Engineer 4) within the Oceaneering Aerospace and Defense Technologies (ADTECH) engineering team. The role focuses on the development and implementation of complex power and control systems for underwater robotic and electromechanical systems, typically for US Navy and other US Government DoD customers. Projects are largely one-of-a-kind, offering varied and hands-on opportunities from design to testing.
Responsibilities
- Lead system or subsystem electrical and control system designs; may supervise and mentor small teams of senior and junior electrical engineers to achieve project objectives.
- Develop designs from incomplete, high-level requirements for moderately complex systems, exercising strong technical judgment and initiative with some autonomy; work individually and in teams while keeping the system perspective in mind.
- Prepare and participate in regular design reviews.
- Collaborate with mechanical, software, and systems engineers and other disciplines to architect a working system.
- Supervise / mentor junior engineers or technicians when necessary.
- Own results with considerable autonomy and know when to ask for assistance.
- Pursue ongoing growth and expanded responsibilities within the role.
Qualifications
ESSENTIAL
Bachelor of Science or advanced degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering (or related field with an Electrical concentration). Significant commensurate experience may be considered.Minimum 7 years of practical technical experience in electrical, electromechanical, and automated / robotic systems development, including concept, analysis, design, drawing, assembly, integration, troubleshooting, and testing.Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government DoD security clearance (active clearances preferred).US citizenship required.PREFERRED
Experience selecting and integrating varying COTS components and designing interfaces to interoperate.Knowledge of electrical and electronic components, wiring devices, and associated interfaces (signal conditioning, power supplies, controllers, safety devices, terminals, connectors, DIN rail, cabling).Experience with embedded microprocessor / SBC control systems, signals, sensors, actuators, and I / O design; may include custom electrical designs where COTS are inadequate.Experience with data communications (Ethernet, USB, RS-232 / 422 / 485, SPI, I2C, CAN) and related media / protocols in high-noise environments.DC power systems design knowledge and ability to estimate system power and energy requirements.Ability to design, wire, cabling, and ground to minimize electrical noise and EMI.Proficient in reading / drawing electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and block diagrams.Proficiency with test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, power analyzers, spectrum analyzers, etc.) and CAD / analysis tools (Altium Designer, SPICE, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, MATLAB, etc.).Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to document, convey, and present engineering concepts effectively.Additional Information
